  5. Since the arrival of winter on Nov 30th and in the middle of my sister's fund raiser winter has been just plain vicious! One storm after the other! I think we now have as much snow as we got the entire winter last year and now there's another storm predicted for Tuesday! Global warming? NOT HERE.. I think we're in the beginning of the next 'Ice Age'..
  6. Today is his birthday. December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993. My bad... Happy Birthday Frank! There's a guy in Grand rapids who throws a birthday party every year at his house for FZ and strings xmas lights spelling 'Zappa' on his roof. When you walk in the house you're given a Zappa trivia test and the 1st and 2nd place winners get a prize. 3 years ago I won a Zappa hoody.. This year unfortunately I will be unable to attend the party due to extremely vicious winter weather that has me socked in until tomorrow.. I think we're in the early stages of the next ice age here in Michigan..
  7. Bill Heid is "One Of A Kind".. I played with him for the first time in Lansing in the late 70's with Jackson Michigan tenor legend Benny Poole.. He blew me away! I had all I could do to keep up!
  8. Many of these 'scammers' send almost the same form letter like it's been scripted by some organiszation..

  10. I run an ad for half hour drum lessons in a music store on my local Craigslist and get lots of nutcases from overseas who can barely write English.. And they all want to rip me off with their bogus checks or money orders... This one is typical:
  11. I'm wondering why it's taking Pandora Radio so long to incorporate our first and third Cds into their repertoire
  12. Tuesday morning started with rain, sleet, then freezing rain, and finally by late afternoon snow. By 11:30 pm the winter storm finally wound down and passed over, heading in the direction of Ron S. I looked outside and decided to go out and do the annual "Embrace and Make Peace with Winter" Ceremony by digging out and taking a nice two mile walk on snowy back roads, and with a doob and a bottle of water. The ceremonial walk was invigorating and was aluminated by the light of an almost full and hazy moon, and in front of the moon a thin layer of clouds were forming abstract images... Nice groves of snowy maples and pine trees, open fields with big snow drifts, and a beautiful sky. Walking back there was a northerly breeze that started out like a whisper and gradually the icy wind increased to gusts of maybe 15 mph reminding me once again that for at least the next 3 months WINTER RULES! -_-
  13. I miss playin' and hangin' out in Philly.. Hopefully we'll get back there in '09
  14. Where I live we're in for a bitchin' winter that I will be damned glad to see the end of when spring finally arrives... http://www.almanac.com/weatherforecast/us/6
  15. A quote from the Pilgrim Traveler.. http://myblog.thepilgrimtraveler.com/ "Most people, not spending a great deal of thought and energy on the more esoteric matters of life, tend to ignore these erudite speculations. This is why I think these ideas don’t have much effect on the world in general. Scientists, who speak to each other in the language of mathematics, do not relate very well to those who don’t. And we, the common people, do not relate very well to them either. They make pronouncements about reality as they observe it; however, we don’t see it that way. We see a tree and as far as we are concerned it is simply a tree: if we hit it with our fist or run into it with our car we are going to hurt ourselves. That science considers it only waves and spaces means nothing to us. It’s a tree."
  16. I'll have a glass of scotch and toast your dad's birthday and memory tonight.. One very cold winter night I stayed at his place on a trip back from either Baker's or Cliff Bells and when I went to my room there was a lovely bottle of scotch and a scotch glass and a bottled water waiting for me on the night stand. Your dad was the quintessential host and a great hang.. I sure miss him. beautiful memory! What conn said. I never met the man, and your memory makes me miss him as well. Jim's dad was an old soul. He had deep insights and many interesting observations and theories on life and our relationship to the Universe and always fascinating to talk to on many subjects, and he had a great collection of hats. I liked him right away and knew he was one of those special people the first time I met him at that jam I had with Jim and Joe at the old house on Okemos Road back in November 2000 that resulted in my becoming the drummer in this trio.. I will be taking advantage of the snow days to read his entire writings on his site "The Pilgrim Traveler".. Here now is my toast to your dad,,, " Happy Birthday Brother Jim and thank you for all your love, humor, support, insights, and for the encouragement and inspiration you gave to all those you loved".
  17. Good thing you took another look.. I have a stove model fireplace in my living room that runs on natural gas and it's already saved my ass.. My main source of heat is a forced air furnace, and a vicious ice storm one night in Feb 2006 knocked out my power for 2 days and the fireplace kept my place warm and prevented the pipes from freezing.. The day after the ice storm the temps dropped down in the single digits.
