  3. George told me yesterday that Bill Grauer expressed interest in recording him, for Riverside I presume, but obviously nothing ever came of it. I'll have to ask him what happened. We'll be up at Smoke next week, October 17-20.
  4. My Kickstarter campaign expires October 23 at which time we must be fully funded to proceed. In addition to a AAA double LP set, we offer 1/4" 15 ips tape, test pressings, scores, and other rewards. Three free stream/downloads available. Take a look/listen. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1164645459/michael-weiss-soul-journey-analog-vinyl
  5. My Kickstarter Project to release Soul Journey to AAA LP and R2R tape has launched and will expire October 23. Please visit and make a pledge. Sample three free song downloads 96/24. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1164645459/michael-weiss-soul-journey-analog-vinyl
  6. From what I've read and been told there's no appreciable difference soundwise.
  7. My Kickstarter project launched today and runs through October 23. Please take a look. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1164645459/michael-weiss-soul-journey-analog-vinyl
  8. I was on a long European tour with the Junior Cook/Bill Hardman Quintet (with Walter Booker and Leroy Williams), September and October of 1986. En route from Ancona to Milan, the promoter decided to have us layover a few hours in Bologna. Coincidentally also laying over in the Piazza Maggiore was Sun Ra's band. John had the chess board out and asked if I wanted to play.
  9. No digital preview heads or any digital system of any kind will be used.
  10. With Kickstarter that’s true. But setting the correct goal amount is tricky, regardless of your actual costs - too high and it doesn’t go through. Too low and your sitting on boxes of records.. My understanding is that Bernie Grundman’s mastering has no digital process at all.
  11. Had the pleasure of visiting Domaine Santa Duc in 1994 and was offered barrel samples courtesy of the Edmond Gras. His son wasn't happy about it.
  12. John Gilmore thoroughly kicked my ass in very few moves. Regardless of the fact that I'm a novice it was plain to see he'd been honing his skills for quite some time.
  13. Seeking suggestions, advice etc. Responses welcome via private message. I'm thinking of launching a Kickstarter campaign to issue an all-analog double LP of a recording I made some time ago, "Soul Journey" (Sintra). It was recorded and mixed to analog tape by Joe Ferla at Avatar Studios and would be mastered by Bernie Grundman with a limited pressing of 500 150g LPs. I'm trying to gauge the interest out there for a high quality all-analogue LP release among audiophiles for this kind of music. The Kickstarter campaign will offer several premium support opportunities including signed and numbered copies, test pressings, 15ips 10" first generation master tape, scores and lead sheets. Any ideas and recommendations for reaching out via email, message boards, vinyl listening cafes, etc. appreciated. Samples of the CD here: https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/mweiss

  15. I'm forever grateful for all the ink Ira gave me over the years, and a couple of concerts he produced to boot. Ira, yet another icon of the NY jazz scene to leave us - one of those who make living here special.
  16. Walter Bishop, Jr., Roy Eldridge, Phill Schaap
  17. That would have been the time John Hicks was in the band. Is that him in the video?
  18. Really nice guy. Saw him many times over the years in Chicago.
