  1. I'd be grateful for a few Rowles recommendations. I've always loved his playing for reasons so well-stated by Joe, but rarely see his name come up here. No, I haven't done a search yet...
  2. Well gosh, seems Charlie Parker had his things too.
  3. Agreed, and I'd add Mal Waldron's repetition to that side as well.
  4. Allen, I am certain that very few, if any, are going to join you in coining this guy as a messiah. He put out a record that people are identifying with, and is part of a scene of prolific and virtuosic musicians that are making music for a growing audience. Karl, for what it's worth, Dilla was already very well-known at the time Equilibrium was released. In fact, he and Madlib released a record together that same year. I would wager that a Venn diagram of people who heard Champion Sound and Equilibrium that year has but a sliver of overlap.
  5. I heard him with Marty McCavitt on occasion, and with Kud (Darius Jones, Cameron Ralston, Scott Clark) at a now defunct club called Tropicalia(?) that served Jamaican food and cocktails from behind a bamboo bar to a mostly African American clientele. It was a long time ago now, so it's difficult to remember the music. I do remember being very impressed with Darius' tone. He seemed like a great guy. I wasn't living in Richmond at the time, only visiting during holidays, but there was a lot going on back then that has moved to bigger markets. A lot of guys just getting started on the journey. Someone like Peter McElhinney or Tim Harding would probably have more to say.
  6. It's a McMaster from Newberry Comics retail... UK sticker on the back. I've actually never heard any other versions, or thought about upgrading, but I've listened to this CD as many times as I have anything else in my collection.
  7. I'm listening to Street Of Dreams on CD tonight. I don't presume to know what's going on here, but I will say whatever harmonics are distorted, they are distorted to perfection. This CD always delivers that vibe.
  8. I am completely oblivious Tim. No surprise there. At any rate, as with many of the problems people seem to have here, I'm sure the squabble is petty.
  9. I'm with everyone else who has responded, Tim. I understand if you do not want to get into it here, but what is your situation? If it helps to "talk" about it, I know this community is as good a place as any to draw from.
  10. Great stuff. Happy to see that I enjoyed this a couple of years ago as well.
  11. Listening on spotify. My former self would love to "matrix" these with his 3rd gen maxell xlii 90's! This is good Phish. It's not going to convert anybody unless they have a couple of hours, at which point I'd accept concession at best. I like it. It's been a while. I'd go see them in a heartbeat right now. Lots of fun. Download Phish On Demand app. Search Barcelona. There are three consecutive nights from early July 1998 at a club called Zeleste. A bunch of us were in Barcelona that week. The place was packed with Europeans and a small mingling of holiday Americans. We had a blast. It it must be amazing to be able to step back from three night sold out runs at coliseums to three night SRO at club/theaters in front of virtually new audiences. it was just fun.
  12. Lots of fun high school and college memories. I remember dubbing these tapes weeks after the shows. Paradise Amsterdam. I saw them the following summer in Barcelona. Similar sized club. Similar energy. They were enjoying their lack of European notoriety. Lots of fun.
  13. I recommend that you take a look on Twitter at #PrimeDayFail. "For me, Prime Day is still about family." That's really funny!
  14. I had another listen this morning, at full volume. This is extremely powerful, very well-recorded music. I can almost imagine what it felt like to be there!
  15. Received. Currently receiving. Someone mentioned levitating the bandstand earlier this week. These four achieve complete liftoff on the first track. Well-recorded, no doubt, and the packaging is very much in line with the Nessa brand. Everything looks great. Thank you for publishing this, Chuck, and again for personally introducing me to Fred Anderson at The Velvet Lounge. A cherished moment for me. Looking forward to to listening to this at actual volume! Immense.
  16. not so sure about that...
