  1. first disc, Freddie Hubbard is so good on Outward Bound
  2. I've been corresponding with the helpful staff at the University of Hartford library. They don't have class notes and syllabi in their archive, but they do have class descriptions and course catalogues. They also have a few recordings from classes, but these are not available for download.
  3. How's the sound quality? I'm curious about the Classics 1003 Bud Powell compilation.
  4. I love Attica Blues and Four for Trane, but Shepp's Impulse! catalogue is huge. I haven't even scratched the surface of it. Will check this one out.
  5. Looks like another one, Symphonies Nos. 2 & 8 / Wagner: Meistersinger Prelude, comes out next month.
  6. I love it. Nelsons has been recording all the Bruckner symphonies, paired with selections from Wagner. He might be done by now, not sure. I don't know Bruckner's 6th and 9th well enough to compare to other recordings, but every Nelsons recording I've heard in this series has been fantastic.
  7. Yes, the Sun Ra scene is from Jackie McLean on Mars. Great interview. Thank you!
  8. The Matt Glaser stuff is hard to watch. The stories from Artie Shaw are great, as are the stories from the pair of dancers.
  9. Are there any good written accounts of his teaching by students? Recordings of lectures? Syllabi? I've seen 'Jackie McLean on Mars', of course.
  10. Is there a good Bud Powell box set for the music from the 40s?
  11. I rewatched it the other month. The talking heads don't offer much, but the old footage and photographs are great. Ridiculous to make a jazz documentary that long that doesn't really mention Blue Note records, but oh well. I wish Jackie McLean were in it more. I could watch him tell stories about Bud Powell and Charlie Parker for hours.
  12. Seasonally appropriate too because they riff on "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire"...
  13. I love how these geniuses came up with the corniest names for their bands, albums, and songs.
