  1. You guys are so democratic!! But does it really need a POLL to discover that TRUE BLUE is the most outstanding of all the cons??!!??
  2. Some put it at the head of the list... others don't mention it... I have got nearly all the conns since the series started... and I have no doubt that True Blue is my favorite and the one I play the most. If I pick a second it will be Minor Move... but TRUE BLUE! Hard to find now, I suppose, and I doubt it will see light of day as an RVG. If you haven't heard this one I suggest you make a point of picking it up!
  3. That's Krall taken care of... now, who is going to marry Summer? Don't pretend you don't know who she is! According to Sony's advertisement inside, uhhh, this admittedly OPERA program which I have in my hand, there is the face, the web address, and the claim that 'Summer is the Norah Jones of 2003'. And Norah is the winter of our discontent so matters have evidently come full circle. Hmm, wonder who the Summer of 2004 will be... Marry them while they're hot.
  4. Mobley's Far Away Lands is not well respected in some quarters. I like it, and I like Byrd's appearance on it. His solos are sweet sounding (if not absolutely secure) and melodically well shaped.
  5. I haven't bought BN or Mosaic product since the Board closed. It is just a gut feeling about handing over money to people who were so rude as to delete our conversations. Maybe that will change, but at the moment I have lost interest.
  6. Ah HAH! Thanks Ed. A man of my years and experince and I had no idea the French had their own Groove series. The ones we see in the UK are called Rare Groove and are the same as the US releases. I'll have to check these out further.
  7. These are still going in an HMV store near you! (well, maybe not so near if you live in Arkansas)
  8. Uh... so like I asked in the other thread, are any of these Rare Grooves? ( I deleted the titles Ed listed. These remaining titles are listed for UK release this month...) NAT ADDERLEY - GEORGE DUKE / WALTER BOOKER / ROY McCURDY / AIRTO MOREIRA / MAYUTO OCTAVIO / KING ERRISON : SOUL OF THE BIBLE - (1972 - Ex CAPITOL) RONNIE FOSTER - ERNEST HAYES / DAVID SPINOZZA / JOHN TROPEA : SWEET REVIVAL - (1972) EDDIE GALE feat. 9. The only way to get a topic deleted is to wait for the end of the world. Then, hopefully, the entire content of the internet will be deleted. Unless it has all been backed up on servers located in other galaxies, of course, in which case... Hm. A bit like the Mosaic storage problem.
  10. Turns out my guy entered the value as $100. I think he just forgot what we had agreed and thought he was doing me a favor by in effect over-insuring the delivery. £2.75 Import Duty £14.25 Value Added Tax £8.00 Handling Fee Makes this my biggest music related 'D'oh'...
  11. I still haven't seen the package. Maybe my guy went to write $3.00 and wrote $300 instead. That would just about account for it. Ho hum...
  12. Uh - so which of these are Rare Grooves? 13. John I got him to quote it at $25 which is less than £18. I don't know HOW they have calculated this charge... but I intend to find out!
  14. Well I have been caught by Customs and Excise before but this takes the biscuit. Ebay purchase declared at $25 plus shipping ($12) from US. Customs charges £25 ($37). 100%. Something like this can determine a person's whole mindset - is Government something you can work with toward a common good or is it just a form of organised crime? I haven't seen the package yet (delivery on Friday) but I know it will just be made up of additional 'charges' on top of the 17.5% VAT (=sales tax). Has anyone else had this kind of problem? With an item UNDER the taxable value? I can't risk this kind of hit any more so I won't be importing any more CDs. I can still hardly believe it.
  15. Ouch. I always hesitated to ask why you had sold all those LPs...
  16. Uh... its a pretty short list... with a bit of a Stanlius Manlius bias maybe?
  17. Here's one I have posted before: I can do the obvious and recommend you try Ronnie Scott’s. Definitely go to the Tate Modern, a modern art gallery in a fantastic recently converted building, and do not fail to take a ride on the amazing London Eye. For opera, if you like dressing up and spending money, there is the Royal Opera House, or less expensive there is the English National Opera. For classical music, I would definitely try to catch the London Symphony Orchestra, which is on awesome form, and for music and theatre in general investigate the Barbican and the South Bank Centre. Orchestral concerts in the UK are less expensive than those in the US, and subsidised orchestras such as the BBC SO and the London Sinfonietta offer interesting concerts of unusual material at a very modest cost.
  18. The following Laserlight 2 CD sets are currently on sale in HMV in the UK price only £5.99. Worth stocking up? 19. I am quite fond of Duke Jordan and thought of picking up the Steeplechase LPs none of which I have. Can anyone suggest which to get first? I have a chance on the double In Sweden (correct title ?) but the copy I saw is a bit costly. Any suggestions?
  20. Really? How much is it fetching on ebay? How are the mighty fallen when this specialist company rushes to release things that have been technically out of print for months rather than decades. It's just not serious.
  21. It is total nonsense to include Along Came John, which was reissued in 2000 and is readily available. They are just seeking ways to pad out a set to make up a three disk package. Why don't they include Blue John which is a much harder find and could do with a sound upgrade?
  22. I think we all know they meant Booby Hutcherson and just mis-spelt it a little.
  23. I am not very convinced by the planning on this series. The Carmell Jones made sense as none of the items had been on domestic CD. The Grachan Moncur did not make sense to me (as a long time collector) since only one LP had been previously unavailable. If a set contains all or mostly new-to-CD items that is one thing. But this pick-n-mix approach combining items that many people already have with maybe one or two that they don't seems crazy. The Patton set seems particularly badly planned. It is their business, I suppose, but I am pretty tired of having the impression that I am being targetted to rebuy things that I have already bought.
