  1. I think it is because "Stupendous" is a lame name for a sale.
  2. Sidney Bechet Blue Note Volume 2 (Liberty) for .99 cents! on ebay--now that's ebay craziness! Edit to add: NM!
  3. The Complete Verve Recordings of the Teddy Wilson Trio (Disc 1)
  4. Dexter Gordon: The Chase (Spotlight Dial reissue) -love ghost of a chance here John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk at Carnegie Hall (Mosaic) -Trane's first solo on Nutty blows my mind Andrew Hill--One for One (Blue Note Reissue Series, Sides 3 and 4) -Richard Davis and Hill have such empathy, and one of the few strings and jazz I've enjoyed in awhile
  5. I'll consider any of em if they're running low.
  6. I just caved and bought this since it is running low--the only strategy I have for buying Mosaics without entirely ruining my finances. I don't think I'll regret it, will I Sundog?
  7. Actually, I'm pretty sure they are going to include an original mono 6-eye with every box--they've been saving them just for this release.
  8. We Insist! Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite (Candid OG, Stereo 9002) Pride of my collection. I just went through every emotion thanks to Abbey and Max.
  9. That's how it seems to me, just based on reviews and word of mouth... which is why I'd rather purchase individual albums when I can find them. And the one with Groove Holmes on it would be one I'd buy.

  12. Anyone have this with Ran Blake? http://cgi.ebay.com/RAN-BLAKE-JAKI-BYARD-I...Q2em118Q2el1247 Sounds interesting...
  13. The Serge Chaloff Sextet--Boston Blow Up (Affinity AFF 63 Stereo)
  14. Just spun Rough N' Tumble BST 84240 (Stereo BN Liberty) with Blue Mitchell, James Spaulding, Pepper Adams, Grant Green, McCoy Tyner, Bob Cranshaw, Mickey Roker I enjoy the album, but Turrentine's playing does bore me a little bit every now and then, so I hear what Rooster Ties and Hot Ptah are saying. He reminds me of a watered down Clifford Jordan on this session--still hot sometimes, though--especially with that supporting cast. Tyner is nice, of course.
  15. Was going to list this on the "Which Mosaic are you enjoying right now," but I got so excited by Jaki Byard's playing that I felt more appropriate in this thread. On disc 1 of the Complete Blue Note Sam Rivers Sessions, Byard really impressed me. I don't have any of his solo stuff (Edit: nor leader stuff!)--this all sounds great. Thanks for all the knowledge you've shared on this thread!... The circumstances of his death are tragic. -Jay
  16. I'll have to check out that film, thanks Kalo.
  17. Man in the High Castle. At the Jazz Quarter on 20th Ave. in SF there is more often than not a Japanese collector buying original records. Reminds me a lot of the imperialist Japanese at that American guy's store that sells early 20th century and 19th century Americana stuff in that book. To see how many records the average Japanese collector swoops up there, in fact, makes me think the Japanese really did win WWII and are somehow colonizing San Francisco. On that thought, I read a pretty comprehensive book on the phenomenon of Jazz in Japan a couple months ago, called "Blue Nippon: Authenticating Jazz in Japan," by E. Taylor Atkins.
  18. I agree, I wouldn't have bought it--it was a gift from someone who didn't know better and saw the cheaper price for the amount of music. In addition to the gift, I have the monk complete blue note, complete riverside, complete columbia solo, complete vogue/black lion. It would still be nice to know what the personell, sessions this one is from, though.
  19. Oliver Nelson--The Blues and the Abstract Truth (Impulse! Stereo--ABC Records) Bud Powell--Blue Note Cafe Paris, 1961 (Base Record Stereo) Tadd Dameron--Fontainebleau (Prestige--Fantasy) Count Basie--BASIE (Mushroom cloud Roulette Stereo)
