  1. Bad news from Mosaic

When I dumped the Pacific Jazz Trios from my cart, I was specifically thinking that when Chuck announces the availability of "All the Numbers," I'll have a nice order for him instead. I'd much rather that, so I'd say it isn't my loss after all, Clever Hans .
  2. Bad news from Mosaic

That one is one of the best Selects in my view. Wonderful music by (in alphabetical order ) Clare Fischer, Russ Freeman, Jimmy Rowles and Richard Twardzik. Yeah, I should get it too. I had it in my cart but dropped it. I just don't see myself listening to it enough.
  3. Bad news from Mosaic

I just ordered the Bennie Green. I have all the others I feel like I need.
  4. The Anthony Braxton Quartet--The Coventry Concert (West Wind)
  5. George Russell--Othello Ballet Suite, Electronic Organ Sonata No. 1, feat. Jan Garbarek (Soul Note)
  6. That Billy Harper album was amazing! Now spinning: Roscoe Mitchell Solo--Live at the Muhle Hunziken (Cecma)
  7. Been spinning some excellent vinyl this weekend: Jaki Byard--Solo Piano (Prestige blue label) Max Roach--We Insist! Freedom Now Suite (Candid) Flower Travellin' Band--Satori (Phoenix) Freddie Hubbard--Sing Me a Song of Songmy, composed by Ilhan Mimaroglu (Atlantic) Melvin Jackson--Funky Skull (Limelight) Billy Harper Quintet--In Europe (Soulnote)
  8. Lester Young--The Aladdin Sessions (BN Reissue Series "brown bag" twofer) Muhal Richard Abrams--Things to Come from Those Now Gone (Delmark)
  9. Does Barney Frank listen to Jazz? That would be awesome.
  10. Jazz isn't "America's classical music," nor is it a train. Jazz is Canada's airline.
  11. The Complete H.R.S. Sessions.

Alright, I caved and just ordered this one and the Lester Young set because the site says that one will be back in late August, which is... now. I hope that is accurate. Staff meeting next week... let's hope that doesn't mean there's another set of layoffs this fall!
  12. The Complete H.R.S. Sessions.

Yeah, this is a tough one for me because it's not automatic, and I wouldn't listen to it much at this point, but I may want it just in case, considering how unavailable the material is in any other form.
  13. Sax / Bass Duo Recordings

Thanks. I was aware of the track on Haden's "Golden Number", but hadn't remembered this. I just realized it looks like that one may be out of print, though, so I'm not sure about a download... I have the vinyl.
  14. Sax / Bass Duo Recordings

    Ornette and Haden: Soapsuds Soapsuds
  15. Freedom Now Suite, Max Roach

I think the story was in a Chris Albertson thread.
  16. Lucky Thompson--Body & Soul (Nessa)
  17. Ebay craziness

I didn't know they required paypal, thanks for the tip. Now someone needs to explain to me why someone paid slightly more for a used edition of The Complete H.R.S. Sessions, $100, when they could have gotten a new one from Mosaic for $96??? The Complete H.R.S. Sessions Mosaic MD6-187 Is that set back-ordered, maybe?
  18. Ebay craziness

Hush now! I plan to go for that basie. ) Yeah, seriously, you're killing me man. Ebay craziness posts should only be posted when the bids have become unreasonable or already ended at an unreasonable winning bid!
  19. Harold Alexander jazz saxophonist

Up because I just noticed how amazing he is on Big John Patton's Understanding (Disc 3 of Mosaic Select).
  20. I hope you have a mono. Mucho better Thanks Chuck, I was just thinking about grabbing a Stereo version I saw. I'll wait for a mono (hopefully under $100 somewhere, or $50 for that matter). Isn't Audio Fidelity the label for both, though? Perhaps Clifford's is a mono.

  22. George Russell (1923-2009)

Also from his website: "Russell has received the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, the National Endowment for the Arts American Jazz Master, been elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Swedish Academy, two Guggenheim Fellowships, the Oscar du Disque de Jazz, the Guardian Award, six NEA Music Fellowships, the American Music Award, and numerous others." I understand maybe he struggled financially, but that list amounts to "recognition," as far as I'm concerned. Do you mean to say that he didn't receive the accolades and recognition he deserves from the commercial mainstream? Would you have expected that? Sorry for the late Monday crankiness in that tone, there. I guess it just doesn't matter much to me whether the mainstream recognizes everyone I appreciate or not. I'm bored with the "jazz is underappreciated" stuff in every thread.

  24. Why are you here?

I chose the first four. I have no desire to discuss politics here.
