  1. I'm not sure, but I remember reading that the character was originally created for the animated title sequences of the movie, the cartoons came later.
  2. This is supposed to work, but I haven't tried it myself: http://keepvid.com/ You probably need a player that can handle Flash video files. I'm thinking of archiving some of those Youtube clips myself, I have a sneaking suspicion that many of the music videos won't be around much longer.
  3. This version seems to be complete: http://homepage.mac.com/bobbelden/.Public/...K-London-69.m4v
  4. Thanks! I couldn't unpack it with WinRar, but it does work with the latest Winzip version. Very cool footage, the tune indeed is 'I remember Britt'. The only Lee Morgan footage I've ever seen before is with the Jazz Messengers. Is Jymie Merritt playing an electric upright here? There's actually more good stuff in the main directory of this page: http://homepage.mac.com/bobbelden/ Various Blakey and Miles videos, Dexter Gordon, some guitar stuff...
  5. What software do you need to unpack or view this? I can't get it to work.
  6. I think The Sidewinder is an enjoyable record. The only thing I don't really like about the title track is Cranshaw's bass solo, always sounded weak and somewhat out of tune to me.
  7. Happy birthday! Have a great day. I turned 28 a couple of months ago.. yeah, that big 3..0... does seem awfully close.
  8. I've checked out some of her stuff after all the praise on this board. I like the music a lot, wish the lyrics were a little less cheesy though (nofi..)
  9. Looks like a nice show. Thanks for hipping me to your podcast program, enjoyed the other episodes I've heard (especially the Tomasz Stanko and Don Cherry stuff)
  10. 11. The ZFT had also promised to have 'Trance-Fusion' on sale during the gigs initially, but that announcement also mysteriously disappeared from the Z site, a few days before the tour started. Anyway, take all their promises with a huge amount of salt until you actually have the product in your own hands. The Roxy footage they showed was great btw, Montana and a nice extended version of Dupree's Paradise.
  12. Someone in the know over at the Zappa.com message board mentions that new tour dates will be added shortly, including Denver. Might want to keep an eye on the official tour schedule.
  13. The other Stolen Moments version on the 4 disc set is by Ahmad Jamal (from 'The Awakening' LP on Impulse), the John Coltrane listing is a mistake.

    Mingus

Is that the one with Mingus being evicted from his apartment? That's a pretty depressing film, very interesting though. I think you can actually watch it on Youtube if you search for "Mingus", it's split into 5 or 6 parts.

    Bernard Purdie

Another thing, the Shaft soundtrack lp credits Willie Hall for the famous drum intro on the title track (and everything else on the LP). However, Pretty Purdie did record his own version of the theme for an lp. Is this just sloppy research by the author, or...

    Bernard Purdie

Another spurious claim... he is a great drummer, though.
  17. You can actually listen to his compositions here: http://kanchanapisek.or.th/royal-music/index.en.html Some of them sound pretty decent, like 'Candlelight Blues' and 'Friday Night Rag'. Don't know if he also plays on these.
  18. I only have Komeda's "Astigmatic", but I really like that album. What else should I get by him?
  19. I don't think you should go in expecting something that recreates an authentic Frank Zappa concert, that's just impossible without the man himself present. However, as a performance of his music, it sounded great. In Amsterdam, Steve Vai and Terry Bozzio sat in on a couple of tunes, but the core band consists of mostly unknown players and they played very well. I like how they focused on some of Zappa's more challenging instrumental stuff instead of doing "Bobby Brown" or "Disco Boy".
  20. I saw the Zappa Plays Zappa show in Amsterdam, and I was mightily impressed. Three hours of live Zappa music performed pretty accurately, and Napoleon Murphy Brock's vocals sound like it's still 1974. It might be somewhat expensive, but I thought the show was great.
  21. I'm more like Sir Nose D'voidoffunk when it comes to dancing..
  22. Not many people I know IRL listen to jazz, so I rely a lot on the comments on this board to buy 'new' titles and reissues. There's a wealth of knowledge available from here.
