This is still available. Held it for interested party for 5 days and he backed out at last minute.

I was the "interested party." The second sentence serves no purpose other than to throw some shade in my direction so I will respond.

I appreciate that you held the item.

It was my mistake to not revisit this music before expressing interest because upon doing so (after many years) I realized that this wasn't something that I needed on vinyl. People change their mind. It happens.

I don't think that 36 hours notice is exactly last minute.

I apologized for inconveniencing you. Your passive/aggressive rant in response to me letting you know I had changed my mind should have sufficed.

  2. Pricing based on current listings- US sellers used when available.

Unless otherwise noted all sets are EXC/M-. Many discs are unplayed and most booklets in the sets are unread. I went through a big chamber music phase. Title which were played were played for the purpose of ripping into iTunes.

Reasonable offers accepted for multiple item purchases only.

I just started listening to the Waka/Wazoo box.  I really enjoyed disc 1, perhaps more than I liked the original Waka Jawaka and Grand Wazoo albums.

I am very much looking foward to this set. One of FZ's indisputable gems...among many. Interestingly is hasn't shown up on Amazon yet that I can see. Umusic is hawking this as is PopMarket. I'll preorder through Amazon. Their preorder price guarantee typically culminates with a very competitive price.

I might have to take a day off from work when this arrives. ;)

Thanks for AudioQuest info. I have no USB ports in my 23 year old car,
but it could come in handy in a rental - or maybe here at home - not sure,
because I tried using their "Dragonfly" for a while and I remember having
some problems with the sound. I might try again. Anyway, thanks again!

Yes! I can relate. My iPod Touch is a 256GB version. I can store 20,000 tunes total
from either my personal iTunes library or set up two 10,000-tune Spotify playlists
(they only allow 10,000 max per playlist) or any other combination up to a full 20,000 tunes
at 320kbps (highest quality on Spotify too for Premium members). Not owning a phone,
I didn't know what the storage was on those, so it's good to see you having 512GB!

    "Not owning a phone"...So you're that guy. 🙂

On that note my significant other is one of the presumably few people who still has an AOL email address. "She has mail."

Kinda like Lon, I’ve used Macs for nearly a quarter of a century and have never sent anything to their “cloud.” …and 5GB storage is such a pittance. Music in the car comes from over 250GB loaded on a Touch (and I’m thinking that you can do nearly the same on a cell phone with lots of storage?). A favorite thing for me is to download big Spotify playlists (10,000 tunes) and switch between those and about the same number of tunes from my personal library with them cross-fading with nice segues tune to tune. It’s really the ultimate radio station in the car.

I have 512 GB on my iPhone 13 Plus. I have over 20,000 songs on it. Granted I did have to downsample (?) them to 256 from ALAC but most of my listening with my phone happens in the car where the diminished fidelity is not an issue. At home I'm an iPod classic guy. I had one hot-rodded to 1TB of memory and another to 768GB for rock and jazz respectively.

I believe that the 14s now have the option to go 1TB.

I succumbed to Apple's insistence and did purchase the 100GB for $2.99 but reading the comments I'm going to rethink that. In checking most of our family backups are text messages. There are three of us and we don't use the cloud for photos or music. Apple does pretty well. I don't think they will miss my $3 a month.

    FS- Newport Jazz Festival Programs-

Duke Ellington Cover is from the Silver Anniversary (1978). Cover shows some slight wear. This is a magazine-like program. There is an assortment of articles. The advertisements are like getting into a wayback machine. This binding is very tight, indicating that it is just about unread. $15 $12

The other program is from 1980- The Kool Newport Jazz Festival. This cover is in very good shape and like the Ellington the binding is very tight. Articles and ads. A veritable time capsule. $15 $12

Take both for $25 $20 plus media mail shipping.

    Thank you.

I wonder why no younger African American frumpeters are on my list. My first thought is that among them there is a fairly consistent facile/demonstrative brassiness that to some degree works against the development of individuality. One finds oneself following more or less in the the footsteps of Lee Morgan or Clifford Brown and gets sort of stuck there.

With all due respect, I'm not sure why race would be used as a springboard into what is an otherwise interesting thread. I am also personally troubled by the broad brush used in painting the stylistic similarities and artistic trajectory of African American flumpeters/trumpeters.

I enjoy the musicians that I do because of their playing. Race is not a factor in any way shape or form. Nor is it the basis/criteria upon which I would feel comfortable using to begin a discussion.

Some album covers show the artists but there are those that don't, which leaves the question of race out of the "picture" (primarily for new artists and lesser known sidemen). I don't stream but I'm going to guess that there are instances that also omit an image of the artists. My ears listen and judge the music and musicians based on what is compatible with my interests.

I'm certain that this thread wasn't initiated to be a discussion on race. This is clear based on subsequent posts. I just found that initial observation and the reference to race to be very off-putting.

    Just one man's opinion.

  11. I'm just gonna be that guy...I never got into Coltrane. Early on I bought a bunch of his stuff because that was "jazz" as presented to me. It got pushed aside by other things that resonated more deeply with me- Mingus, Rahsaan, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Hutcherson, and Miles to name a few. I've revisited his stuff a couple of times through the decades but I'm still left flat. I even got "Love Supreme" on 180 gram vinyl through popmarket a few months ago at a deep discount. Meh.

Love abounds for him here and that's the beauty of art and music. What works for each of us is a highly personal thing.

So, even though I do have an appreciation for some of Dolphy's work, this is a pass for me.

    Okay...let me have it. 🙂

  12. Bebo Valdes- Bebo de Cuba- promo. Digipack shows some wear. Two cds, dvd documentary, booklet are unplayed. $5

Chucho Valdes- New Conceptions- promo. Open. Unplayed. $5

Swing Fever featuring Clark Terry, Buddy DeFranco, Terry Gibbs, and Jackie Ryan. CD/DVD are unplayed. Promo. Digipak shows super slight wear. $8

Mike Mainieri- Crescent. Promo. Digipak shows light wear. Two CDs. CD one has some small marks which don't affect play. $8

Ben Goldberg- Orhpic Maching. New and sealed. $4

Media mail at cost. Paypal Friends and Family for payment.

Take the whole lot for $20 plus shipping. Thanks for looking.

Also available is the 1978 Silver Anniversary Newport Jazz Festival- New York, Saratoga program. The cover has a Leroy Neiman painting of Duke Ellington on it. The program is in very good/EXC- shape. I received it from the venue's files and I've only casually perused it. This is a "magazine" program full of pictures and an assortment of articles/artist profiles. Looking through it, and particularly the advertisements is like going into a time capsule. $25 shipped.

  13. I've been very pleased with a pair of M-Audio speakers that I've had for about ten years. I don't listen to music on my PC a lot so these have held up very well. My specific model has been upgraded to the one I've linked to:

    https://inmusicstore.com/m-audio-bx4-black-kevlar-120-watt-multimedia-reference-monitors.html

So many wonderful choices as mentioned above. I did a lot of research. Can't remember exactly why I decided on these...

  14. uMusic has a buy two get one free sale going on right now. Most of the Tone Poet titles and the Classic Vinyl series are included. Shipping is free as well. I'm going to take the plunge on three of each as the Classics will price out at about $20 with tax while the Tone Poets are about $28. I noticed just a handful of exclusions.

On a lesser jazz note the Zappa vinyl titles seem to always be excluded from discounts/promotions. I guess that the family trust wants to wring every dollar they can out of dear old dad's extensive recorded legacy.

  15. I am just starting to do vinyl again. I’d like to pick up some classic Blue Note. I see that the Tone Poet series is priced out about $38.99 everywhere I check.
I know the music but are these pressings superior to the point of worth being so expensive?

    Thanks.

  16. Mine continues to lounge in Albuquerque...since April 15.

Matt at Nimbus is being helpful and he's going to see what he can find out...I know a lot of people grumble about the post office. I've typically had good luck and I consider myself fortunate to have had very few mishaps. But I'm in a slump. The new GD Dave's Pick 46 (a highly anticipated 1972 show) arrived at the post office on 4/29 and continues to languish as it waits for "acceptance" and I've got another order from Florida that seems to be swirling around Tampa Bay for the past few weeks as well. Ugh.
