  1. I have the predecessor to the MS-KBR3D, the KBR-M which is a wedge-shaped monitor version as well as a newly-acquired Leslie 3300. I love the little MS amp for light duty gigs and the beauty is having a mic'd small amp (w balanced output) that projects fine through a larger sound system. There is a fair bit of adjustment in the MS amp though nothing like the Leslie 3300. I assume your MS amp has adjustments internally on the PC board for rotation speeds like mine and you can tweak the mic volume as well as gain controls for different effects. The sound by itself is a bit lame beside the real leslie (duh) but would fool most of the people all of the time. A fairer comparison with the Leslie 3300 would be with the MS-Pro145 though still a less expensive and lower-powered (200w vs 300w) option. I agree about flimsiness of my MS unit and my rubber feet ripped out of the particle board almost immediately. Pound for pound though it is brilliant since I also run an electric piano through it - taking the 110 lb 3300 also means carting a keyboard amp. As an upgrade to the Leslie 3300 I had a traditional half moon type switch made for me by Jim Trimper of Half Moon Electronics http://www.halfmoonelectronics.com/ and a use it together with a foot switch using a Y-jack (since I find it is handy to have both foot and hand switch). My dealer also did not inform me the foot switch did not come with the unit so I had to make one with a doorbell switch. Because the Leslie is a momentary type, the half moon switch for the leslie is spring-loaded to the centre position (on-off-on)...I am going to get him to make another 3 position one for the Motion Sound unit (Off-Chorale-Fast) which works more like the original Leslie switch. I will use a stereo Y-jack with this setup. I understand those 12AX7xx tubes are interchangeable but at the moment find I can get more than enough distortion from the stock tube with the circuit cranked up...which also cranks the volume. I would be interested in the results if you experiment with swapping the tube . I am just adding a subwoofer to the 3300 to see what that sounds like...I made the mistake of getting a passive subwoofer so have ordered a rack mount Behringer bass amp to power it....that should give it some serious bottom end.
  2. This is continuation of another 3300 thread which was getting long and probably covered too many sub-topics. I recently purchased a Leslie 3300 and finally getting it working after repairing some shipping damage, realise that the control is not what I expected. On my Motion Sound "leslie" amp the chorale/stop and fast/slow are controlled by two separate switches using a standard 1/4" stereo plug. One advantage of having that arrangement is that especially with a half-moon type switch you have a visual/tactile reference of what the leslie is doing at that particular moment without touching the keys. Since lights are at the back of the Leslie 3300 (unlike my MS unit which has a light indicating 'fast' on the front) there is no reference unless you can see them - that is often not convenient in the heat of the moment if you want to change from Chorale or Fast to STOP....and back again. I have ordered a half moon switch from Halfmoon Electronics however it will always be spring-loaded in the center position. I am sure someone else has tackled this minor issue and even modified the electronics to control the unit with two separate switches....in my opinion this would be an improvement of what seems to be a big flaw. Am I missing something really obvious?
  3. I received and installed the new bass rotor yesterday and really enjoying this amp (about a 2hr job being extra careful)!! My only comment [and do not understand why H-S did this] is that the switch is a momentary type w a long press for the STOP function. One advantage of having a switch like my Motion Sound unit is that with a half-moon type you have a visual/tactile reference of what the thing is doing at that particular moment without touching the keys. Since lights are at the back there is no reference unless you can see them and not convenient in the heat of the moment if you want to change from Chorale or Fast to STOP....and back again. Weird but I will experiment with it. Mine did not come with a switch (which I found out later was extra) so I have bought a doorbell switch at the hardware until my 'halfmoon' one arrives from Halfmoon Electronics. Still even w the halfmoon switch it will always be spring-loaded in the center position. Hmmmmm I am sure someone else has tackled this minor issue.
  4. Hi Jim...the shipping problem is water under the bridge and will just try to organise proper packing next time. As for your comments about the subwoofer I found that really interesting. I am going try to add a Yorkville YX18S Subwoofer and see how that works....if it doesn't pan out I can still use it with my small PA system. Anyone have any experience with this unit...at $340 for 18" / 400 w. subwoofer how can you go wrong?
  5. Ray and H-S has been on the ball in arranging to get a new low rotor shipped. I hope to get a second unit at some point but will ask for some extra packing next time and I would recommend that if you are getting it sent any distance.
  6. Jim - I ordered a 3300 partly on the strength of your review. It arrived this week but so far a big anti-climax. When I switched it on there was a loud grinding sound - on pulling off the back panel, the low rotor had obviously got damaged in transit, probably from heavy vibration or a big jolt. The styrofoam rotor seems to have broken away from it's centre axle and so the horn is scraping on the bottom of the cabinet. I will fix it and hopefully get a new rotor part from the dealer but it does make me think that if you plan to ship one of these things (hint for H/S), you may consider putting some foam or cardboard under the horn for protection! When I bought a new washing machine the tub was fixed with shipping bolts for delivery.
