  12. ***** Max Roach Corner *****

There was a feature issue on Max Roach from the Swiss magazine "Du", in German language: http://www.du-magazin.com/kiosk/detail/667 That 1978 interview is the one reprinted in the Jazz Podium book.

  14. What Classical Music Are You Listening To?

Solo piano version of Fauré's beautiful Requiem, grown out of Naoumoff's fascination with the work. I must admit I find the vocal version much more enchanting.
  15. ***** Max Roach Corner *****

A biography of Max Roach would be like writing a history of jazz from the 1940's to 2000 - a major research endeavour. Max came out of Baby Dodds, Jo Jones, and Cozy Cole, Klook, Blakey and others forged different personal styles from similar influences. The three drummers I mentioned as his influences all are favoring well constructed playing. Clearly recognizable structure, even when accompanying, but not repetitive. Like someone said "He does the piano player's comping on the drums". That's a musical logic leading to his pianoless groups.

  19. Greatest LPs to never make it to CD

    I found these:
  20. Might be, but the CD sound worse. Sounds like the available tapes were defective.
  21. The McCoy Tyner - Tender Moments is the one I would buy, given it sounds better than the CD reissues. I regret I sold my 1980's French LP reissue.
