I think I remember I must have this somewhere, but I doubt I spinned it more often than once. As much as I remember mine had or still has a little different cover and might have been titled "Byas and the Girls".

The latter you mention might be the other one I have:

There are no "Girls" on the Lover Man CD.

  2. The companies owning the rights are afraid of losing their corporate identity when material they own is intermingled with that of other companies. Mosaic had the same problem with the Lester Young /Count Basie box - they had to place all the SONY/BMG material on one separate disc.

Yes, I was a bit surprised in how they organized it.  I can certainly understand separating the Rosenkrantz material from the commercial recordings, particularly as the vast majority of the former are from mid-late 1944.   But why separate Savoy and other labels in the ordering?

  3. Completed sessions of several 1950's Savoy arstist would be nice.

has the Giants of Jazz (Gillespie, Winding, Stitt, Monk, McKibbon, Blakey) Euro/UK tour of Oct-Nov '71 been mentioned?

Only half of the material recorded in the UK concert (Victoria Theatre, London) for Atlantic (10 of 20 titles) has been released - does the unreleased material still exist or was it lost in the 2008 fire?

There were also recordings in Milan (RAI Radio broadcast), Paris (both concerts were ORTF recorded broadcasts), Prague, Warsaw, Budapest, Belgrade (JRT Radio broadcast), Rotterdam (NOS Radio broadcast), Berlin, Boblingen (Sudwestfunk broadcast), Copenhagen (Danish Broadcasting Corporation), Uppsala - much has been previously released on semi/non-legit labels

plus the outlier is the earlier Australian (Melbourne, Sept 24) performance (ABC Radio broadcast)

I'm sure these concerts were well attended but were the performers generally up to scratch - have read mixed reviews of these concerts

    Here's a pretty much complete listing: https://jazzdiscography.com/Artists/thelonious-monk/thelonious-monk-discography.php#sess-year_1971

  4. The source for this version is by the James Moody Quintet, July 13, 1951 (Vogue LD036 , Roost 544) - at least that is what comments on th Prestige reissues say. But I just listened to the track on YouTube (which wrongly dates it in 1949) and understand your doubts. But there is no other Moody recording of that tune ....

The liner notes of recent CD reissues are very helpful in this respect, as they state the source tracks for most of the King P?leasure recordings, especially the Blue Note CD which includes the UA LP plus one unreleased track:

I am working on a King Pleasure discography, to be published online in a few months, stating all the source tracks.

    Reinhard Goebel Complete Archiv box

That's a real treasure trove. I bought all the LPs and CDs when they were new, otherwise I would have jumped at the box. He was very positive about it in a recent interview, except for the inclusion of the Haydn Concertini with Koopman, which originally were on Phlilips and had noting to do with Musica Antiqua Köln.

This spring his book on the Brandenburg Concertos was published which he wrote during the pandemic. He is the most knowledgeable musician of his generation.
