  1. Most recent on Spotify is 'Ma at Mama' so will try that later. Another to add to the thread list Steve Lehman Octet - Mise en Abime And the Steve Coleman run on Pi. Pi has been a good label this century
  2. That's someone I haven't thought about in about twenty years. I'll try and hear that one
  3. Anything or maybe everything released by Wadada Leo Smith this century. The releases on TUM alone stand up as a truly remarkable body of work. Definitely agree about the Matana Roberts trilogy. Then there's releases by what I like to think of as the Chicago scene - Josh Berman, Jason Stein, Jason Adasiewicsz, Mike Reed, Jason Roebke, Nicole Mitchell, Tomeka Reid, Jaimie Branch, Makaya McCraven (not the same scene? but same city). Tim Daisy Rob Mazurek's small group and large ensemble recordings Irreversible Entanglements and Keir Neuringer's intense solo record And I haven't even got to nearer home and Europe yet. Too many! And Threadgill on Pi, just take your pick of them
  4. I'd read somewhere, don't remember where, that Adasiewicz was taking a break to focus on his young family. May not be true but would explain why his high profile has dipped so much over the last couple of years. Definitely missed here
  5. Definitely looks worthy of investigation. Satoh is at Oto next week, not with Sakata sadly but still worth a trip I think
  6. One of my albums of the year. I like the restraint of Ibrahim's contributions. Gorgeous tunes, beautifully played.
  7. Terrific album. I need to listen to it again, it's been too long. All Otomo's New Jazz Orchestra albums are worth investigating for the adventurous of mind. So are the New Jazz Quintet/Ensemble recordings. Always something interesting and a bit different happening
  8. I admire your dedication and you're reaping the rewards. I've nearly bought both boxes a number of times but I find music presented in such amounts increasingly intimidating. They just don't seem to fit my listening habits any more. Give me a two CD set and I'm happy. The recent DKV is a case in point, great music but just too much of a good thing in one package for me. At least the Guy releases present a variety of line-ups. I guess you know the Dwyer's 'Umbilical', fine album. Agree wholeheartedly about Godard.
  9. I was looking at that over the weekend. I'm a big fan of Pursglove's playing on trumpet and there's not a lot of it about. I'd played his trio with Mazur and Lopez and wanted some more. It may have to be this, thanks for posting
  10. Thanks. I'll take a look for that too. Looks like I can get a Fuchs at a reasonable enough cost
  11. I like the look of the Fuchs, may have to track one of them down
  12. Like you, I'm very pleased to hear this. One of the more intriguing recording series. Info and sound sample http://cstrecords.com/products/matana-roberts-coin-coin-chapter-four-memphis/
  13. Track listing here. https://store.udiscovermusic.com/*/*/Blue-World/68970000000 Might depend on your feelings about alternates
  14. https://www.npr.org/2019/08/16/751516859/a-lost-album-from-john-coltrane-is-found-with-thanks-to-a-french-canadian-direct Some background and a sample track
  15. Always pleased to read about a new Sclavis. And not pleased to read a tour schedule with no UK date
  16. Hope you get it sorted by 31st October...😀
  17. We're already falling into SimonSpill's 'high end vinyl fetish' category so a bit of 'duplicate to alternate' should be no problem
  18. Took a deep breath and preordered the LP set...this will be my real intro to Tubby as I only have two big band CDs. In for a penny... Those European postage rates are madness. Maybe worth emailing to check?
  19. That's very enticing. I recently discovered Matthew Wright's duo recording with Keir Neuringer 'Inner Cities'. Well worth a listen.
  20. Listening to 'Collected Works'. Excellent and a good introduction to someone I seem to have ignored, my loss there until now.
  21. Humans have agency and choose to take part. If they are badly injured or die then that's part of the risk assessment they should have made. The bulls however have no choice but are put in an unnatural and probably frightening environment and react accordingly. My sympathy is with the animals that are exploited for human "entertainment".
  22. Bill Dixon/Cecil Taylor - Duets 1992 [Triple Point] First dive in
