  1. Thanks Sonny Murray - Sonny's Time Now [DIW, Japan] First listen to this new arrival - powerful stuff edit to add: wish I could read the Japanese notes
  2. Yes, it was the final day of a weekend of one-day line ups in London over the last couple of weekends https://www.allpointseastfestival.com/presents/ I'm of the vintage now where I go just for the latter part of the day rather than try and make it all the way through!
  3. Last Night - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Patti Smith, Psychedelic Furs Patti Smith was just sensational. I've seen her four or five times in the last few years and she gets better. She hushed an outdoor crowd of thousands by opening her set reading excerpts from Howl in recognition of Ginsberg's birthday - very special
  4. Thnkas, I've found it on Spotify. On one listen only I tend to share your reservations but also look forward to Paul's views. On a similar note, I've often wondered about tis release. Any views anyone? Contains a lot of musicians I have a lot of respect for
  5. That looks like a very intriguing combination of musicians. How well does it work?
  6. Prince Lawsha - Firebirds, Live at Berkeley Jazz Festival vol.1 [Birdseye] Side 2 is particularly striking - Lawsha and Caliman weave a lovely tapestry but the Hutcherson, Williams, Moffett trio also come into there own.
  7. Bey's a very prominent presence throughout so if you're not a fan I'd suggest avoiding
  8. If only it was an instrumental mix I'd have it off you in a trice
  9. Yes, sounding very fine this evening. Grachan and Andy seem an unlikely pairing at first but work very well together
  10. up there with the very best Interesting. I only know him from his very good work with Paul Horn and the two Impulse releases which I've not heard
  11. Just found a reasonably priced copy and ordered it. Very much looking forward to listening to it Dennis Gonzalez & Faruq Z Bey w/ Northwoods Improvisers Septet - Hymn For Tomasz Stanko [Qbico] one of my favourite trumpeters honouring another
  12. Funny, but valuable, how tastes differ. I never get on with the later GTM despite trying a number of recordings, including Iridium. The Istanbul is the only one I've kept. It's the only phase of Braxton's career that left me behind. My loss, I'm sure I was pleased when he moved onto EEMH and now Zim on a completely different tack... glad to see that come up on the thread
  13. I second the first sentiment here (the second only for the occasional Jazz title) I'm often intrigued by the titles posted and seconded by you both, especially, but not only, the music from Africa of which I have a small smattering most usually of the more famous and obviously commercial names. So to see these LPs is a delight. I've so far resisted chasing any down but today's Kora (?) duet may have to be the first exception to that rule. now listening to this because it was posted elsewhere on the board today
  14. Anthony Braxton - Sextet (Istanbul) 1996 [New Braxton House] following a startlingly good Zim Music performance at Oto on wednesday. This Ghost Trance Music sounds not very like Zim Music really but it's the nearest I could get
  15. I'd've been nearer the middle. I remember it seeming quite old fashioned by then. The Oxley certainly sounds worthy of investigation. Now if they had played the music to The Woodentops it could all have been very different... Just looked up the Oxley. Four drummers apart from him! No wonder it sounds immense
  16. Chico Hamilton Quintet - With Strings Attached [Warner Bros, France] this is fast becoming one of my favourite Hamiltons, especially now I've replaced a noisy copy with a much nicer one. (still don't like the cover though, sorry TtK )
  17. Adios Zizou. Well that came out of nowhere but I can understand his thinking. My Spurs supporting friend is feeling very worried now
  18. Me too now. saw your post and thought "that's just what I need to hear". Thanks for the prompt
  19. Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for them both
  20. I'm intrigued by the Ramsey McLean (and also pleased to hear he's still with us). How is it CT?
  21. Don Byrd & Gigi Gryce and The Jazz Lab Quintet featuring Jackie Paris - Modern Jazz Perspective [CBS/Sony, Japan]
