Which was the last great Tindersticks album in your opinion .... ?

I stopped listening to them very early, at 'Curtains', and I'm not sure why now at this distance. So my favourite remains the first one.

My interest is piqued again so I think I'll stream some of the later ones. Obviously you rate 'Simple Pleasure' highly as you post it often so I'll start there. Which other later one would you suggest I try?

I think that's a fabulous release, admittedly after only one listen. The drumming on 'Africa' is almost worth the entry cost alone

This was intended as a joke, but I popped into Rough Trade today during an office fire drill to see the second hand racks (and I mean display racks, not the Sale boxes) full of Dixieland.

They'd obviously bought a job lot of old jazz from somewhere. The swing comps and west coast stuff (some quite significant records in the latter category) were stuck into the sale box, but the Dixieland went on the racks.

Rough Trade and Dixieland, not a pairing I'd ever imagined. Good use of fire drill time though, well done!

Yes. I haven't been this excited about a Lloyd release in a while.

Me too, I found the Trios a bit underwhelming and the other BNs have been listenable but this definitely has an edge to it

This band really seems to have something, Blade sounds good with Lloyd

It's good stuff!  After making With Flute to Boot with Machito, Mann formed his own Afro-Latin band.

Along with African Suite, I'm especially partial to Flute, Brass, Vibes and Percussion:)

Yes, I have the latter and really enjoy it. Not too sure why I missed the 'African Suite' album before now, although it's quite easy to get lost in Mann's discography I find.

Very nice.  Sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference, no?

Hearing Philly Joe with those three percussionists is something special.  :)

This has piqued my interest, off to find a stream.

I can see what TTK mean about the alternative covers, although the Argentine pressing has a good one

I'm slow to catch on as usual, just noticed this has been reissued and is on Dusty Groove's (USA) "Coming Soon" listardley_neil_symphonyo_101b.jpg

Also, I finally ordered Keith Tippett's How Long This Time after fence-sitting and missing a couple of low-postage chances.

I didn't realise that was due either. It's a great album. Extra track too, will I have to have that to complement the LP? Hmm...

Weirdly closed mid afternoon on a Saturday.

Good experience in The Wax Factor.  Small but well chosen jazz selection.

Weird indeed, I'll make a note of Wax Factor

15-20 years ago there must have been getting on for 10 decent shops in Brighton, the majority in North Laines where most of the 2nd hand could be found. Did you see many others?
