    Derek Bailey——- Cyro——-( Honest Jon)

pretty stunning record and a very nice reissue. Time and Aida also arrived today and await full audition....

I bought 'Time' on a whim and it took me aback. Coe is amazing and Bailey's not as 'spikey' as I usually hear him.

'Cyro' will be in my next HJ order

BillF and other UKers, I just got a used copy of this—haven’t started it yet, but thought it might resonate with you: 51DTYNC8BXL._SX300_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

I bought that same edition a few years back. I had always wanted to investigate the novels as they have such a strong place in the city's cultural history.

I struggled with the language of race in the first one and gave up. I often feel I should have persevered.

I'll be  interested to hear what you make of them.

Never read these but will look at checking them out. The second novel had the most profile over here, back in the 1980s during the ‘jazz boom’.

An unlikely combination of Bowie, Patsy Kensit, Gil Evans and Mingus (not forgetting the then London resident, Slim! ).

That was a right dog's breakfast. I saw it at the cinema. I remember the times well, coincided with my early years in London (Bar Italia!) and my early explorations of Jazz. Happy days indeed.

Thanks for the heads up. Ibrahim is one of my all time favorites. I own about 42 records by him but can’t get enough Ibrahim.

Saw him last year, 83 years old, solo piano in Belgium. I was a short but breathtaking concert. Just Ibrahim and the piano, not even an amplifier or anything. One of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed. Lovely and humble guy.

any info on personel yet? Or is it another solo record like the last ones? Those (Mukashi, Senzo) are so beautiful and melancholic.

    It's with Ekaya. More here

initial impressions suggest this is another winner from this label

Honest Jon's really deserves the highest praise for their Derek Bailey reissues. Incredible value for money.

I agree, a very impressive reissue. On the back of this I'll definitely be investigating some others, starting with the Cyro Baptista I think

Very nice. It was their planned second LP after the first one’s 99 copies and only got as far as the Test Pressing stage before Tony Pike Music went bust. Well up to the standard of the first LP, not dis-similar to what Rendell/Carr were doing at the time.  :tup

This first commercial issue is taken from a pristine test pressing and sounds AOK.

Thanks, duly noted and entered on the ever expanding list

Copy number 320 just landed from West London.

’Return To Analog’ who have reissued this have also put out some interesting CBC Radio Canada reissues, which I must check out. I note with this Guy Warren that the co-operation of the Warren Estate is credited, so maybe we will also see reissues of ‘Emergent Drums’ and ‘The African Soundz’.

And I have one of those red and white postcards from the postman...rather than a red and white box from out West

Here's hoping for the other reissues
