  1. PM sent for the Hackett and (unless you're selling it to the overseas buyer who's interested) Teagarden sets. Thanks much.
  2. Anyone have any sources for plastic sleeves for Mosaic and similar LP-size box sets? Thanks much.
  3. And, of course, 2cd sets are now $13.99
  4. These two box sets have been on my wish list for months. I've been looking at them for Ebay for a while, so here's what I can tell you about the prices: Clifford Brown--$80 is a good price, probably around the lowest I've seen a complete box in good shape go for on Ebay. Paul Desmond--$40 is a great price. The cheapest I've seen a complete box in good shape go for in the last few months is around $60. In short, given the quality of these sets and the prices, get to that record store right away.

    Jazz DVDs

I'm sure this topic has been covered before, but I've never seen it--any recommendations among those jazz DVDs that are readily available? In particular I'm looking for recommendations regarding DVDs featuring the classic performers (I'll leave that to the reader's interpretation rather than starting a debate over who falls into that category!) in performances that are both audibly and visually worth seeing more than once. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  6. Alright--I stand down on this one--that's my regular BMG price, and no shipping and handling discount is available on it. But the 2CD sets are discounted w/no shipping. So, any suggestions?
  7. Here's one--Dave Brubeck, For All Time--$30 on yourmusic, but $18 at bmg with the sale!
  8. Is this possible? Given prices of 17.98/disc, 55% off only amounts to $8.01/disc which is still substantially higher than the yourmusic price. Guy ← It's not cheaper on single CDs, but some doubles (i.e., Miles at Fillmore East ($10.79), Bill Frisell East/West ($8.09)) are showing up cheaper than at yourmusic. Not a huge savings, but every bit helps.
  9. I haven't even looked at the box sets yet, but some 2-cd sets are showing up cheaper than at yourmusic.
  10. I just received an email that BMG is having a 55% Off and No Shipping and Handling sale, for today only. I'd like to use this as an opportunity to pick up some multidisc sets at a better price than offered at yourmusic. Any suggestions?
  11. Thank G-d! I was getting really sick of debating whether to get this set even though none of her recordings that I've heard have turned me. Nonetheless, I considered getting this set purely on the hope that either (1) I would all of a sudden start liking her (which of course could happen), or (2) I would someday decide to part with it and would be able to sell it for big $$$. Buying something as expensive as the Anita set simply in hope that I might like it makes me feel like a fool for spending so much on something I have no reason to believe I'll like (other than the resounding endorsement of many on this board), and buying it so I can maybe sell it later for a big profit makes me feel like the sort of capitalist that I don't want to be. Besides, there are so many sets I'm considering getting that I think I'd like so much more and don't have (i.e., JJJ, Turrentine, Jazz Crusaders, etc.), that now I go back to deciding which of those to pick up next without the threat of missing out on a set that I never considered getting before it hit the last chance list. jbb P.S. Does this sound like sour grapes or am I making some good points?
  12. Columbia's website said "no." It says that instead of combining the two club's catalog's, only bmg's catalog will be available.
  13. Just checked the Columbia House Music Club website and learned that it is ending in late August and that all memberships (including bonus points) are being transferred to BMG. Thank G-d! I remember hearing years ago that BMG had bought the Columbia House Music Club, but the only thing that changed about Columbia House was that the selection (especially the jazz selection) got worse and worse, while the BMG catalog seemed to grow by leaps and bounds. Since I joined yourmusic.com a few months ago, I think I'll just use up my bonus points to pick up a bunch of cds that are in my queue much sooner than would otherwise be the case, and probably leave the BMG account dormant. But it will be great to finally have something to spend those bonus points on.
  14. I'm with you on the "investment" issue. The only CDs I've ever bought multiple copies of is the David Ruffin and the Jimmy Webb Rhino Handmade box. I didn't do it in order to sell them at a profit (Hell, I've never made a profit selling a CD!). I bought multiples of these because I have a tendency of talking up the music I like and if I talk these CDs up to a friend and then top it off with "oh, and they're out of print so you can't get them yourself" I seem like a shmuck. Instead, for a good friend, I'll be able to say, "Hey, I've got a set you can listen to, and if you're interested, I can even sell you an extra set I've got (no profit)." Call me an altruist, but I just can't see putting this stuff up for sale on EBay (never sold anything on it), or making money off of a friend in this way. With regard to the Syreeta, I haven't heard it, but I've listened to the clips on the Hip-O site and it sounds really good--like early '70s Stevie Wonder (no surprise there). I think this one will start to sell more when Stevie's new album comes out, so it's probably a good idea to get it sooner rather than later.
  15. I managed to find both of these items very soon after they went OOP. Because I acted quickly, I managed to find the Eddie Hazel new on Amazon for its list price. I found the David Ruffin right after iit went OOP at the following site: http://www.soulmusic.com/. I couldn't find it listing on the site anymore, but maybe an email to them will help locate one. They were quick to respond to my email when there was an error with my order (I actually ordered two copies of the Ruffin, but they originally sent only one). Good luck.
