Less than 48 hours after his Red Sox wrapped up their third world championship in 10 years, he will launch “The Jonathan Channel,” a 24-hour streaming radio channel devoted entirely to Schwartz’s kind of music: the great American songbook as performed by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie and a rainbow of contemporary artists from Diana Krall to Brian Stokes Mitchell. 10. Way past suing....it's @ the State's Supreme Court! With the previous cases about mascots....I can see him winning. thx
  11. Last thing he's worried about is money. He wants Championships and be known as GOAT. the bigger game, the ultimate game, is the money and marketing game.
  12. florida has no state income tax----it would not be economically wise for him to go to a state that does.
  13. fan injured by hot dog suing royals------ http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/11/01/fan-injured-by-hot-dog-suing-royals/ "Coomer, of Overland Park, Kan., says he was injured at a September 2009 Royals game when the team’s lion mascot, Sluggerrr, threw a 4-ounce, foil-wrapped wiener into the stands that struck his eye. He had to have two surgeries — one to repair a detached retina and the other to remove a cataract that developed and implant an artificial lens. Coomer’s vision is worse now than before he was hurt and he has paid roughly $4,800 in medical costs, said his attorney, Robert Tormohlen."
  14. perhaps this is an advance on him for being the next yankee manager. he played 17 games last year. imagine the raise if he had played 34.
  15. As I pointed out earlier....you can have the best helmets possible....which bye the way the NFL doesn't mandate players use the best one....just a Riddell. Soft gelatin bouncing inside of a small hard location....with very little place to move around in without bouncing off something hard.....biology meets physics. Physics wins each time. The NFL also doesn't even mandate that players use something as basic as a mouthpiece....and a real mouthpiece (and not one of those half-assed ones you see kids in pop warner use) would really help a great deal. Never mind real protective chin straps. P.S. As part of covering their 6....the NFL has cut exclusive ties to Riddell. It opened them up to lawsuits galore (even down to the High School and lower level) by authorizing only Riddell. As in, the NFL like the NCAA (with the video games and whatnot) realizes there are so many lawsuits that can end things. Which brings me back to how much the NFL won in the concussion case with former players. P.P.S. They only just got around to mandating thigh and knee pads for this year. thanks for your input on helmets, riddel, and mouth pieces. the amount of the nfl victory in the concussion is probably a tenth of what it should be. i think it limited to 3 million per player. that's not far these days.

  17. dangerous football myths-------- http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/10/31/bernstein-dangerous-football-lies-exposed/ "It has been a common theme the last couple seasons, with schools wanting to boast of doing everything possible to care for students, even if they had no idea if they were telling the truth. The helmet manufacturers created new products that came with both NFL endorsements and densely-worded disclaimers – the bright, militaristic image of protection covering the paralyzing fear of lawsuits, in an inherently conflicted, ironic effort. The futility was exposed by a University of Wisconsin study released Monday that confirmed powerfully what most already believed: no brand, type, or age of helmet makes any difference in preventing concussions. What’s worse, the nefarious charlatans peddling specialized mouth-guards are endangering kids as they use bogus claims to steal money from school districts. The study found a much higher likelihood of concussion with their use, as opposed to a standard mouthpiece."

  19. music to die for-thinking about it gives me chills.
  20. maturity as a mixed blessing--------last night, the hays trio performed 2 sets at smalls for a very sparse gathering. the second gorgeous gorgeous quiet set, some with the bassist at the french horn, would have been more appropriate for a funeral, and brought only meager applause. it was so soft you could have heard the house cat padding around. i adored the sets and tried to listen to a replay today, but they were playing something else.
  21. this is from 2010, but timely. http://jazztruth.blogspot.com/2010/10/kevin-hays-interview.html "Also, when I played with Joe Henderson...apparently, I was getting in the way with my comping, so Joe clued me in, saying "It would be great if you comped for ME the way you comp for YOURSELF." So that was a bit of a clue. So now when I teach pianists how to comp for themselves, I say," Don't play your left hand and right hand at the same time! Just play in the holes!" And when you comp for yourself, which is kind of the joke of what happened with Joe Henderson, is that you know what you are going to play...I said to Joe, "Yeah, I KNOW what my right hand is going to play!" It began the process of me listening better. " http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=T-YU5_agWHI
  22. http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/wkcr/story/clifford-brown-birthday-broadcast-wednesday-october-30 "Tune in on Wednesday October 30th as we dedicate 24 hours of programming to legendary trumpeter Clifford “Brownie” Brown in celebration of the 83rd anniversary of his birth. In the course of only four years, from 1952 to 1956, Brown led and contributed to some of the greatest ensembles and recordings in jazz history, leaving behind an enormous imprint on the genres of bebop and hard bop, as well as the art of jazz trumpet.
