I don’t think I’ve ever seen another copy of the Mack LP over here so must have sold in tiny quantities.

. Having said that, by far the best ‘Giant Steps’ I have heard is the mono UK first release on the London label.

Friedrich Gulda: Jazz At Auditorium ( http://www.sonorama.de/index.php?section=FRIEDRICH_GULDA_ORCHESTRA_Jazz_At_Auditorium )
New album with unreleased music, recorded in 1962 in the Auditorium Maximum of the Freie Universität Berlin. Friedrich Gulda on the piano or baritone saxophone and as head of a 13-member ensemble of top musicians, with Benny Bailey, Erich Kleinschuster, George Riedel, Fatty George, Arne Domnerus and Ack van Rooyen.
Brilliant modern jazz in front of an enthusiastic audience, with titles such as Parker's "Anthropology", Monk's "Round About Midnight" and compositions by Gulda and Riedel, premiered by "Music For Three Soloists And Band". -

The first 2 LPs were only issued at the time in mono - not unusual for UK early to mid 60s issues. ‘Phase III’ was the first to come out in stereo as well as mono. BGO also worked from original tapes but I’m not sure if it was the ‘originals’ or some other copy held by Universal. Jazzman seem to have had access to the originals (the booklet has photos of the tape boxes from the Lansdowne Studio).
Stereo or mono pressings it d`nt bothers me I play all my stereo`s in mono ( stereo/mono transformer converter )
I`m still waiting on my delivery from Germany. ( jpc.de )

Hard to find. I purchased it around 1978 and since then I´ve been very impressed by this, Sonny Rollins with Don Cherry, Henry Grimes and Billy Higgins. Then in 1978 I was much into 60´s "new thing" "avantgarde" and purchased it for the participation of Don Cherry and Billy Higgins. Sonny is fantastic on this. An Henry Grimes is one of the true masters on bass.
