  1. Play ball! 2019 MLB season thread

The return of Leon appears to be confirmed. I was surprised that he wasn't at Fenway for the ring ceremony last Tuesday. The Red Sox should be able to hide his bat in the lineup if the rest start hitting. One wonders how much Pedroia has left. He's not off to a good start. Tampa Bay could take the division, quite a feat given payroll considerations.

It's Red Sox v. Yankees tonight, in NY. Red Sox not playing well. Generally bad starting pitching and not much hitting, with a few exceptions. There's a report that Blake Swihart was just designated for assignment. Christian Vasquez played second base yesterday. One wonders if Sandy Leon is headed back to catch.

  4. There are air checks of other groups as well from the Panther Room in the Hotel Sherman. Bud Freeman and His Summa Cum Laude Orchestra, for example, comes to mind.

Robinson Cano homered in his first at bat with the Mets.
  7. Any update to this thread? I'll be in Durham for a few days starting tomorrow for a conference and am wondering if there's anything noteworthy to check out.
  8. Happy Birthday jazztrain!

Thanks guys. It was a big one.
  9. Andre Previn (1929 - 2019)

Saw him conduct at Tanglewood several years ago. RIP.

Odd that the article doesn't even mention the other (superior, IMHO) side that was recorded at the same session: "Dixieland Jass Band One-Step" (also issued as "Dixie Jass Band One-Step"). I aired it on Tuesday (on the 100th anniversary of its recording).
  11. Eddie Costa's "House of Blue Lights" was mentioned already, but it was years ago. It deserves another mention. These three by James Williams are nice: A few other nice ones from Ray Bryant:
