  1. Coleman Hawkins Quartet Live at the London House Chicago, Ill. My Cd is on Gambit
  2. I try to collect all original Columbia 6 eye editions from the 56-62 period. But transatlantic postage is putting me off to fill the gaps: 'Anatomy of a murder', 'Blues in Orbit' is a Phillips edition, 'Piano in the Foreground' a french CBS and the 'Midnight in Paris' cover is damaged. Yes EP's and ordinary 45's
  3. My display wall. All records can easly taken of the wall and replaced by other records. Made by my builder who had a record store before becoming a builder.
  4. Just finished 'Charlie Christian the genius of the electric guitar' Disc 4.
  5. This afternoon 'Charlie Christian the genius of the electric guitar' Disc 2. And now Disc 3.
  6. After playing Benny Goodman 'The complete RCA Victor small group recordings' for the second time this week-end I'm baffeled that I didn't remember it better. The only track I don't like is 'Sweet Lorraine' beacause of the brushes as used by Dave Tough. My first tought was that the master was damaged. Now playing 'Charlie Christian the genius of the electric guitar' Disc 1.
  7. There are many extra new bulletins with updates about the flooding on dutch public TV. Here in Haarlem north of the rivers I'm safe. The flood is still in the province of Limburg. The coming days the exces water will flow throug the broad rivers in the southern part of the country. After previous floods a lot of space was created to accomodate the extra water. Not much trouble expected there.
  8. Benny Goodman 'The complete RCA Victor small group recordings' Disc 1. Had not played this for a long time. Almost forgot how good this is.
  9. I haven't listen to it yet the but Radio lab has a 6 part podcast about Harry Pace. Harry who? Harry Pace was founder of Black Swan records. Black Swan recorded in the early twenties Ethel Waters, Fletcher Hederson, James P. Johnson etc. Black Swan was the first record company owned by Afro-Americans. Yet later in life Pace passed for white. Enough reasons to listen to this series. Radiolab | The Vanishing of Harry Pace | WNYC Studios.
  10. Thanks for pointing this out. But those japanese CD's are difficult to track down and the prices. The days of the Select were over but I wished Mosaic did this as a Select as well . I would have dumped my Lone Hill set with pleasure for a Select.
  11. Out-Of-Print Limited Edition Jazz Collections - Mosaic Records - Home for Jazz fans!
  12. They were first issued by Columbia spread over two CD's Louis Armstrong Volume V Louis in New York (Two takes of After you've gone) And Louis Armstrong Volume 6 St. Louis Blues (1 take each of I ain't got nobody, and Dallas Blues and two of St. Louis Blues). Incedently this issue misses the alternate of 'I Can't Give You Anything But love'. To complement the Classics issues of Louis Armstrong's recordings Neatwork put them all on Louis Armstrong Volume 1 1926-1935 (Neatwork RP 2020). This one has the alternate of 'I Can't Give You Anything But love'. Frémeaux included them all on The complete Louis Armstrong 5 "Tight Like This" 1928-1931 (FA 1355). This one als misses the alternate of 'I Can't Give You Anything But love'.
  13. Better late than never. The JSP box covers chronologicly all Armstrong sessions November 12 1925 - Februari 1st 1930. 'He likes It Slow' with Butterbeans and Susie and the Carroll Dickerson big band session that produced 'Symphonic Raps' and 'Savoyagers' Stomp'. are also included. Of 'Some Of These Days' and 'When You're Smiling' both vocal and instrumental takes are included. The alternate takes of 'I Can't Give You Anything But Love' and 'Rockin' Chair' round off the set. Off course the later discovered instrumental takes of 'After You've gone', 'I Ain't Got Nobody', 'Dallas Blues' and 'St. Louis Blues' are not included. The Columbia Longbox covers not chronologicly all Armstrong sessions November 12th 1925 - March 5th 1929. Also included are The November 11th 1925 Hociel Thomas session, 'Butterbeans and Susie, Lil's Hot Shots and Johhny Dodds Vocalion Sessions. The 'I Can't Give You Anything But love' alternate is also included. The Carroll Dickerson session is missing. The JSP includes the first orchestra sessions the Columbia stops at the last Savoy Ballroom 5 session.
