NTSC? Do you mean NTFS? There is apparently a way to switch the filesystem on hard drives from FAT32 to NTFS without reformatting them - it's a relatively simple command-line switch. I have one external drive that I failed to notice was default-formatted as FAT32 before I loaded 100+ GB of FLAC files onto it, but I've never felt brave enough to try to perform the filesystem switch as I don't have a good set of complete backups for the drive.

This was my solution. I had a credit union account that I wasn't really using much anymore, and it typically has only $20-30 in it. I do have to pay a dormant fee of $1 every month there's no account activity, but I'd rather do that than give Paypal access to my main checking or savings account. I've heard too many stories about sellers who have had money sucked out of their accounts by Paypal after a buyer received goods and then filed a bogus claim with Paypal. Since Paypal isn't subject to banking regulations, you really have very little recourse if they decide to take money out of your bank account.

There are a bunch of freeware file renaming utilities available here. I suspect that if you try a few of them, you'll find one that solves your problem. I had a similar problem a while back with a FLAC file that was bundled together with other FLAC files in one zip file - WinZip, my usual zip file tool, choked on this one file and would not extract it, claiming it was corrupted, even though I could play the file with the FLAC plugin for WinAmp. I finally found an alternate freeware zip/unzip tool that was able to successfully extract the file.

In the early 80s, I had all of the Mothers' Verve LPs in dead mint original pressings, which it had taken me several years of searching to collect. My copy of We're Only In It For The Money even had the original inserts, in mint condition like the LP and jacket. I was an impoverished undergraduate, and eventually hit a patch where I needed money badly enough to convince me to sell all of them. In retrospect, I should've just sucked it up and stocked up on ramen noodles; I wound up not getting as much money for them as I'd expected to, and although I eventually replaced most of them, the replacements weren't as nice as the ones I'd let go.

Agreed. I carry the small version of the Rewards card on my keychain, so it's always handy when I need to present it. I've also used the same coupon more than once without any problems, but perhaps they're starting to crack down on that. I used the 40% off coupon plus $5 in Borders Bucks I'd accrued to pick up the first Jazz Icons box set yesterday for about $20 cheaper than I could've gotten it for online. Granted, that's an unusual occurrence, but you can come pretty close to equaling online prices if you use the 25% and 30% off coupons. I rarely bother with the 20% off ones anymore unless I use one to pick up a single CD.

Any chance that It's A Beautiful Day also got some relief in that judgement? If you're referring to It's a Beautiful Day's self-titled album, that one was reissued on CD in 2001. It's still available from Amazon.com and other stores. There's been a problem with US release of their entire catalog. I've managed to get import CD's of their first two albums plus their live album, but would like to get the other two titles (bad as 'Today' probably is, without David LaFlamme), remastering, bonus cuts, etc. CBS had a 2CD retrospective equivalent to the one they did on Moby Grape in the 90's and were blocked legally from putting it out due to court actions. It's a Beautiful Day and Moby Grape shared the same seemingly unscrupulous (I don't know his side of the story) manager, Matthew Katz, during their tenures with Columbia records, and he has blocked legit US releases of their catalogs for many decades. The CD of their first album in the Amazon link above was released by San Francisco Sound, which is Matthew Katz's company. I think most people would be really happy to see Sundazed redo IABD's catalog as well as Moby Grape's, but I'd be surprised if that comes to pass anytime soon. Then again, I never expected to see the Grape wrest control of their catalog away from Katz, so anything's possible.

I was unable to get either the shows or the links page to display properly in Firefox (latest version - 2.0.0.6) - the only thing visible on either page was the Night Lights logo. Is the site not compatible with FF?

I really wish Criterion would do an edition of RED DESERT, but I assume that a rights issue has prevented that from happening. The old Image DVD is long out of print, and it looked pretty crappy to boot - the colors were washed-out and way off, never a good thing but especially damning for a film in which color played such a central role. I believe IL GRIDO is (or was) also available on DVD.

We used to do all sorts of dangerous things with fireworks when I was a kid - shooting bottle rockets at each other and so forth. It's a wonder no one was ever injured. Now they're illegal to possess inside the city limits here. It's not uncommon during fireworks season for fire marshals to stake out vendors and follow people who purchase fireworks to see if they bring them back into the city, at which point the fireworks are confiscated and the offenders get a big-ass ticket.
