  3. allan: yes, it is indeed great news! i tried to make that gig but couldn't. certainly will plan on catching him one of these months. he also played at barnsdall park during this past summer which i also missed. it will be a pleasure to hear him again. bertrand: i'm assuming you're planning on hearing wayne at disney hall but can you tell me where the lee morgan tribute will be? thanks in advance. valerie
  4. i'll bet that most folks don't know that he was a big jazz fan. i used to see him at Donte's, a long-age jazz club in north hollywood in the 70's. he always seemed like a very sweet, nice man. always sat at the bar and always seemed like he was really enjoying himself. if i remember correctly, he was friends with some of the musicians as well. i had heard fairly recently that his health was not good and i am sorry that he is gone from our midst. my condolences to his family and friends. 5. boy, oh, boy, that obit/article really took me back to some of my happiest new york memories. i lived on 93rd near columbus so these were some of my favorite haunts in the sixties. i remember seeing lots of the folks mentioned plus many, many others. my favorite person to see there on occasion was sidney poitier. he was a close friend of terry's. there were several incarnations on that site: vic & terry's, terry's pub and then mikell's. what wonderful nights and times were had in those clubs by yours truly!! my sincere condolences to mike's family and friends. valerie bishop
  6. JamesJazz: thank you SO much! i'm passing this wonderful tribute around to some friends who knew Roy and may not have seen it.
  7. peter, you've managed to mention four of my favorite players/people from the sixties! thankfully, barry and charles are still with us.
  8. i am sad to hear about roy's passing and although 67 is very young, roy had a tough struggle to survive those many years. i think i remember when he and hermine married in the sixties. this is probably the first time he's been at peace in a long time. god bless his soul. and i send my heartfelt condolences to his widow, family members and friends. valerie bishop
  9. i just love the ones of buster!!! great shots!
  10. . . . and still in the same nursing facility in new jersey, i believe.
  11. "Between You and Me," Mike Wallace's second memoir. Just started it but I think it will prove to be a brief but fascinating read. What a life he's lived! Met him last night at an interview/book-signing in Beverly Hills. We actually share a hometown (Brookline, MA) which he mentioned when he signed the book. He looks incredible and nowhere near his 87 years!
