That is great! I saw Sun Ra within a few days of the September, 1978, recordings on this Horseshoe Tavern box. I saw Sun Ra at the 1978 Ann Arbor Jazz Festival, which was a great performance. Sun Ra was the closing act on Saturday night, after Kenny Burrell and Stanley Turrentine each played full sets.

Is this true? I ask because for years on music boards, back to 2003 as far as I can remember, people have posted that Kenny Rogers died as a sick joke, when in fact he had not died. I am not sure why Kenny Rogers was singled out for this repeated treatment.

We need a Blindfold Test presenter for April. If you are interested, and have not presented a Blindfold Test before, Thom Keith and I will help you. This is not an indication of any problems with the Blindfold Test generally. We have had some excellent Blindfold Tests this year and lively discussions. We have presenters lined up for most months this year.

You are not close on #4. The entire album is at this level of artistry and quality. I really like it and it is gratifying to see that you do too when you don’t know who it is, Jim. #7 is Marshall Allen. Great ears!

I drive thirty to forty minutes to work in the morning and a similar time back home at night. I do a lot of other driving, including one to four hour trips for work. I play a lot of CDs and also stream on Spotify Premium (no ads) a lot of jazz, also classical and other genres. It is a great time to be alive, with such variety easily available in the car.

If you like blues-rock with guitar solos, Roy recorded some high quality material. Some people don't like that style, which is fine with me! Roy went on and recorded some excellent albums through 1987. His later albums were on the blues label Alligator Records. He had some good vocalists with him on some of his later material. I have explored a lot of his recordings and they are consistently good to excellent from the early 1970s to 1987. Reportedly he had gained control of his drinking and was doing well, when he relapsed and was arrested for public intoxication after a domestic dispute. He hung himself in his cell in the Fairfax County, Virginia jail in August, 1988, He was 48 years old. Years later i drove past the Fairfax County, Virginia jail. It is in a beautiful high income looking area. The entire situation is very sad. That is a fine anthology of his work, but I need more by him. I have heard a lot more of his albums, and they left some great stuff out.

Quicksilver is definitely part of a certain time. Roy Buchanan died tragically at too young an age.
