  1. Bought a bunch of acetates that are pretty cool. Tristano recordings and very early Lee Konitz & Lloyd Lifton. The Lennie records are: Lennie Tristano Quartet - with accordion (Leon Sash?), bass, guitar. 6 tunes on 4 discs. I found a new baby, night in Tunisia (2x), pick-up sticks, honeysuckle rose, one other tune. Pretty good fidelity. Lennie Tristano Trio - August 21, 1948. 3 tunes on one disc, Indiana, What is this thing called love, don't blame me. Noisy and faint - will need help. Chubby Jackson Quartet - Lennie, Bauer, drummer. September 1946. Happy Monster, Milton, (two of the accordion tunes are at the end of each side of this disc), Sherry, Wow. Massive hum on the 4 tunes - sounds like the cutter was not grounded - will need help. Lennie solo - one side - you can depend on me, just you - just me. There is one more 7" solo disc I put away for safekeeping and now can't find - but I will...I hope. Flip side of I found a new baby is the end of a Konitz / Lifton version and a solo version by Lee of in a sentimental mood. Flip side of the solo Lennie is I surrender dear by Konitz/Lifton band dated June 19, 1946. All the Lifton/Konitz tunes sound damn good. The rest of the Konitz/Lifton tunes are: Lover Man, How High the Moon (2sides), Poppity Pop, Memories of You, Out of Nowhere, My Blue Heaven, You Can Depend on Me, Don't Blame Me, Lullaby in Rhythm (2 sides), and last half of Man I Love (first half on the Flipside delaminated and lost in shipment to me). One disc of Lee singing with Bob Dunn - your driving me crazy, you are too beautiful, I'll remember April, embraceable you. Lots of cool stuff! Gonna pack and send to Carol Tristano who will hopefully make them available eventually. Kinda worried about how to safely send to Paris...
  2. In a Bill Dixon record - naked pictures of the previous owner (I assume) - not pics anyone needed to see.
  3. I went to see Defunkt in the Spring of '82 and they ended up as the opening act for an unannounced show by The Time and Prince. Bowie was not pleased. Only time I saw any of the bands involved.
  4. Pablo record signed by Count Basie and Freddie Green for $3.50...
  5. The Marmarosa is Macgregor transcriptions and quite nice
  6. Saw one for $20 when I was not employed @25 years ago - passed in favor of food... Still wish I'd dieted instead.
  7. Grant Green - Nigeria - BN LT series LP. Sounds great to me.
  8. Jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule....
  9. Moderate and sudden onset due to high frequency hearing loss resulting from chemotherapy. Doc says it is an artifact of my brain dealing with the missing information nothing particular to do or worry about? Has gotten less difficult over time. Better to be above ground so no complaints...
  10. 28/30 but I am married to a history professor so it rubs off a bit...
  11. He seemed ageless when I saw him in the 80's hrs looked like he did in 71.
  12. She'll be in Chicago January 9th - I'll make the pilgrimage to see her again.
  13. I happen to be listening to the little regarded Costa record w- Evans and he is attentive responsive and clever - quite enjoyable.
  14. Picked up a decent mono copy of Tubby the Tenor on epic for $2.00 today, the jacket is beat but the LP plays great! Also a mint Ralph Burns Bijou with Jimmy Rainey for $9 - Tubbs will get more play.
  15. I have to say this is by far the least essential of all 10 volumes - only the Isle of Wright has any interest but not for $140.... Recently bought a mint self portrait at the flea mkt for $1 and feel like I paid too much - and I once flew to Maine just to see Bob in a theater.
  16. Google says Sonny in Paris was 1965 - my LP is near legit sounding mono - have never heard any of the cd versions.
  17. Gotta get the hang of this on the phone. Sonny in Paris is w- Art Taylor and Gilbert Rovere - the date could be wrong but it is an amazing session without a break can't get started , three little words, can't get started (reprise) 3 (reprise) st Thomas, is side 1.
  18. Don't have this....who is on Drums? Is there a date on it?
  19. Rollins Paris 1958 - Italian Jazzway - favorite live Rollins record.
  20. Steve Lacy - Catch. Duo with Kent Carter- Horo 1978 - lyrical and intimate. Love late 70's early 80's lacy - probably cause that's when I started to listen but also because he was really hitting everything.
  21. If you were in St. Paul it could be the same copy. Once you tune out the horns the drumming is impressive but not that well recorded.
  22. Milford Graves - Babi. Trio with Arthur Doyle and Hugh Glover. First play in 15 years and despite all the weird stuff I listen to I still don't really get it....
