  1. As a bassist yourself your enthusiasm is understandable , but a 2-and-a-half-hour solo bass album strikes me as an indulgence not likely to be granted by many non-musician jazz fans .
  2. Not me , I'm more impressed with her flexibility in being able to pull her knees all the way up there - lady's a contortionist of some kind .
  3. Really ? Wow . He might be my least favorite with the bow .
  4. I don't have a favorite arco solo , but if I did it'd probably be one by Richard Davis .
  5. Posting a Phyllis Diller or Dolly Parton cover would be too easy , and I like the challenge of sticking to the jazz realm , so I'll start with this one :
  6. Afaik , the last with the orange & black label was 9152 : Mel Brown - Chicken Fat , and the last with the red & black label was 9229 : Pharoah Sanders - Best Of (twofer) .
  7. Not true . High speed digitizers are available , at a price , but even if it were true that digitizing had to be done in real-time , how would this be "the rub" ? If you're too busy to listen to a tape as it's being digitized , then you're likely too busy to listen to the resulting digital copy , so why bother with digitization at all ? I'd love to see one of these "high speed" digitizers. Can you show me one? Well I could , only then I'd be doing your homework for you
  8. Uh-oh , it looks like regular users , i.e. those who haven't paid $48 to become WVIP members , can only stream 10 hours a month . Wish I had known that before I checked out that Four Freshman concert....

  10. For the Japanese it's all about authentic reproduction , which is why this misspelling , which appeared on the original 10-inch LP cover , wasn't corrected for their reissue . I suppose we should be thankful that they're not reissuing 10-inch LPs on Mini CDs !
  11. I can't agree with that ; I think a soul fan would have a greater affinity for the gospelish I'm Tryin' To Get Home , than for the AM-radio pop commercialism of Up With Donald Byrd , which is a really weak record in my opinion . BTW , why isn't this in the Recommendations forum ?
  12. If your friend would like to hear more jazz with wordless vocalizing you might suggest these : Donald Byrd - I'm Trying To Get Home Freddie Roach - All That's Good Andrew Hill - Lift Every Voice Max Roach - It's Time
  13. He takes Paypal . http://www.earlyrecords.com/
  14. Dick Hyman has got to be a contender .
  15. The celebrations started yesterday : http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=55797
  16. There's a strange error on the Fresh Sound CD , Joe Gordon & Scott LaFaro : West Coast Days . Track 4 is listed as It Could Happen To You , and Richie Kamuca announces it as such , but the tune played is actually the Sonny Rollins tune , Paul's Pal . Some sloppy tape splicing no doubt , but it's pretty peculiar that the error wasn't noticed and that the correct tune wasn't identified , since both are fairly well known tunes .
  17. .....Or anyone wanting to own a CD that looks like it came out of a vending machine at Starbucks . Actually , the loudness problem of recent CDs is a product of minimizing , not maximizing dynamic range . Is it just your subjective impression that JAZZ CLUB CDs are even more compressed than other jazz CDs , or have you actually measured and compared them ? Not that I would buy them either way....
  18. That's a real shame . Back when that happened (1977) , Cirillo was only 50 years old . He was still playing and composing , and had recorded with Joe Diorio in Florida .
  19. So you're one of those people who need peepal eh ? You lucky dog .
