My favorite blooper was in Ben Sidran’s book of interviews. Denny Zeitlln was misspelled Zeitland throughout the chapter. Obviously Sidran didn’t review the galleys too carefully and I’m sure that he didn’t do the transcribing.

I came across this blooper in an NPR podcast transcription about Art Tatum: He also unfluenced Benny Carter, Johnny Hodges, John Coltrane... all of these musicians that said they came out of Tatum.

Mel Torme wrote in his autobiography about an agent telling him that his being billed above Duke Ellington wasn't a problem. But when Duke found out, only his band played the first few nights until Mel finally relented and gave Duke top billing. Artists like Duke Ellington earned top billing on every engagement and to see artists billed at the top of a jazz festival that have nothing to do with jazz above NEA Jazz Masters is beyond pathetic. I imagine these people would book Kenny G at the top of the billing without hesitation.

Has anyone ever seen the video of the original New Orleans Jazz Festival? It was booked by Willis Conover and had consistent high quality acts. There were also some excerpts issued on five or so Scotti Bros. CDs. I've got all of them. Andre 3000 is also the first one mentioned on the Montreal Jazz Festival bill. Sorry, it would be a total waste of time, like listening to electrified Yanni. I guess I should have gone to Newport when I was younger when there wasn't so much non-jazz filler.

The one bad memory I have of the Montreux-Detroit Jazz Festival broadcasts is the hosts jabbering at length once the top of the hour was reached, even if the headliner was performing. Whoever encouraged that crap should have been banned from radio. Contrary to popular belief, even a station ID is not required in the middle of airing a live event on public radio.

WTF is Andre3000? It is the first name mentioned on the Montreal Jazz Festival billing as well. Stupid group names mean music of no interest to me. i just looked up this clown and he is another useless rapper. Giving top billing to a rapper at a jazz festival is total bs.

George Wein included non-jazz acts because of the bottom line, he said so in more than one article and I think his autobiography. I do find it puzzling as to why the non jazz acts are often the first 8 to 10 acts billed for what is supposed to be a jazz festival. I feel like the Jazz Masters on the bill deserve better, having somebody like Bruce Springsteen billed above Duke Ellington is ridiculous (though Duke would have not shown up had that happened).

I looked at the first few lines and thought WTF are these people doing at a jazz festival? I never heard of most of them. Much like the New Orleans JazzFest, the top billings go to a bunch of commercial acts that hold absolutely no interest for me.

The home plate umpire for tonight’s Mets-Braves game went to the Eric Gregg school of umpiring, he has little concept of the strike zone. He needs to be sent to the minors.

Braves starting pitching was shaky during their first two home games with the Diamondbacks, but not their hitting nor their relievers. Today's game was a breeze by comparison.

I am glad that is the case. I have never had a CD fail unless it was damaged and that usually meant heavy scratches or a cracked disc. If you are on Discogs and own a CD, please add a listing for it with the image and matrix / runout.

I just finished listening to this CD and discovered "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me," present as track 18, is omitted from the track list and liner notes. Presumably recorded in November 1943 featuring Thelma Carpenter, according to my few minutes of online research.

It's kind of odd. I listed it on Discogs and my review copy was a CD-R. Allison himself changed it to CD and I changed it back, as it was blue and had the typical lack of matrix / runout that manufactured CDs have. He insisted it was a CD and I disagreed, not knowing that I was talking with him (or his representative).
