  1. A wise move I might add. Both Pass and Smith are great sets.
  2. I got my delivery from Best Buy today, and it was indeed the new Box Set. Great deal, and somehow the price still hasn't been corrected at BB.com.
  3. My order shipped from Best Buy as well. I've had a strange journey with the Coltrane Prestige boxes. I first picked up the big complete Prestige set cheap from that German website a couple of years ago. Then I won the Fearless Leader set in that promotion that Concord ran awhile back. And now I picked up this set for $12. I guess I'll need to pick up the second recent Concord box to complete the collection.
  4. Most of what is available for $9.99 turned out to be available on the US site as well the Canadian site (in mp3 format), so for the most part, the Canadian address thing turned out to not really be necessary. But in any event, as said above, this is a legal downloading site. That is preferable to many of us, compared to downloading big boxsets as torrents. Plus, the Bill Evans Complete Verve is available for $499.99 used on Amazon--I got it for $9.99. I'll give up a bit of substance for that price difference. Bottom line, for those interested in some of these box sets, and willing to invest a bit of time in getting them, this is an amazing legit deal on many of the sets.
  5. Alright, caved and ordered four more today (and could cave on various others until this dies...). My tally so far is: Bill Evans Complete Verve Ella Complete Songbooks Roland Kirk Complete Mercury Jarrett Blue Note Jarrett Sun Bear Muddy Waters Chess Muddy Waters One More Mile Willie Dixon Chess Howlin Wolf Chess Hampton and Peterson Complete Verve Lester Young Thanks again Cpt. Wrong.
  6. Their website and downloading mechanics are completely clunky, but this is an amazing find. You have to take into account WMA vs. MP3, US vs. Canadian sites, Windows XP vs. Vista, etc. But once you figure out what works best, it goes ok. The bottom line with Windows Vista is that if you are downloading MP3s, and download all tracks at once off their regular site, you'll actually download WMA. You need to click on the link they provide for Vista users, but then to get MP3s, you literally need to click each track, one at a time, to get MP3s. This just doesn't work on huge collections like the Evans Complete Verve. And many of the discounted titles on the US site are WMA, so I downloaded most of mine off the Canadian site. The MP3s from puretracks are totally unprotected, as opposed to the WMAs. Bottom line, with a little inconvenience (but avoiding the worst of it), I was able to download the 7 or so sets I wanted in MP3 format without much issue, got them all into Itunes without much hassle, and am good to go. Amongst others, picking up the Jarrett Blue Note, Evans Verve, and Ella Complete Songbooks sets for $9.99 each is incredible.

No surprise, I ended up using my older laptop with XP on it, instead of my newer desktop with Vista on it. XP was simply much easier to use with puretracks. 8. Just got the e-mail from Mosaic. Anyone who doesn't have this set should absolutely jump on this. It is a fantastic set.
  9. At least for those ordering from the U.S., deepdiscount.com has this set for $69 delivered (about $20 less than the delivered price direct from Mosaic). It is on backorder, but I suspect they will get product from Mosaic as long as it is not OOP. I ordered mine on 7/31, and it just shipped, so it might be worth a shot for some. 10. Just got the same e-mail. I think I'll place an order for the Lester Young/Count Basie set as a father's day gift to myself.
  11. Better get back to that store fast, as the Beg Scream & Shout set is an amazing deal at that price. I paid about $100 on e-bay about a year ago, and they rarely go for less than that and often go for more than that. A truly great collection of '60s soul.
  12. I am by no means an expert on this era of jazz, but I bought the Hodges set probably 2 years ago on a whim, and never really gave it a listen. This "running low" stuff got me to give it a good listen over the past week or so, and man, is it an outstanding set. Congrats to anyone who got in before it went bye-bye.
  13. I got in on this cheap set from BB, and I just got around to looking at the set. Anyone else notice that there are typos on a couple of the digipaks? Ellington/Coltrane and Africa/Brass are labeled "IMPIULSE!". Kind of sloppy. I wonder if they've caught this themselves.
  14. For future reference, I successfully used the 40% off CD coupon on a 2-disc set the other day (the new Aretha Franklin rarities set). It probably helped that I checked out with 2 single SACD's also, so it was just mixed in. YMMV, but worth a shot in the future.
  15. I didn't make the comment, nor am I chastising the OP, but here's the distinction. The factor you are not taking into account is he would be making digital copies, but then selling the original (not quite ok). That is different than making digital copies or backups, but keeping the original (ok).
  16. Just got mine....cancellation notice that is. I would have been surprised for this to go through, but it's still annoying. Oh well, guess I'll drown my sorrows in my new Joe Henderson box from DG. "Dear Customer, We wanted to give you an update on the status of your order [XXXXX]. We are sorry to inform you that we have been unable to obtain the following item: Thelonious Monk (Artist) "Complete Riverside Record [box set] [Live] [import]" [Audio CD] This item has now been cancelled from your order and we can confirm that you have not been charged for it. Please accept our apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience caused."
  17. Or if ya like books: Borders 40% off Bestsellers
  18. Thanks for the new coupons. I used the 40% off one to pick up Charles Earland Black Talk RVG remaster for like $7. The $9.99 coupon would be great for expensive single-disc titles like Mofi Gold CD's, but I couldn't find any. I'll head back today for another round. These are great coupons.
  19. It takes like 1 minute to join Borders Rewards, you carry around a tiny rewards card, they give you money for spending money, and they send you coupons. Seems worth it to me.
  20. I just tried the 10% off coupon code for the On The Corner box, and it doesn't work. It says: "No matching required products in shopping cart". Regarding Borders, since it looks like msrp is $140, using a 30% off coupon there would bring it down to about $98 plus tax. Still maybe too rich for my blood considering how much of this material I likely have already.
  21. 30% off thru 8/20. 30% Off ...now that's more like it! Thanks m~ My pleasure. I actually just used this myself to pick up the Ayler Holy Ghost box set I'd been eyeing for awhile. $74 plus tax using the coupon.
  22. Here's a recent Overstock.com order for me. In addition to a bunch during the Concord sale, and various smaller purchases since then. Wynton Kelly Trio & Sextet - Kelly Blue (OJC) [Remaster] Red Garland Trio - Groovy Tommy Flanagan Trio - Overseas Red Garland Trio - A Garland Of Red Red Garland Trio - All Kinds Of Weather Shelly Manne & His Men - At The Black Hawk, Vol. 2 Kenny Drew Trio - Kenny Drew Trio Red Garland - Red In Blues-ville Shelly Manne & His Men - At The Black Hawk, Vol. 4 Shelly Manne & His Men - At The Black Hawk, Vol. 1 Curtis Counce - You Get More Bounce With Curtis Counce Curtis Counce Group - Vol. 1: Landslide Curtis Fuller/Red Garland - Curtis Fuller With Red Garland Joe Pass - Blues Dues-Live At Long Beach City College Jim Hall/Ron Carter Duo - Alone Together Phineas Newborn Jr. - A World Of Piano! 23. Yup. The complete C&W recordings is a great box set. I don't have the huge Atlantic box, but I have the C&W box, the Birth of Soul - Complete Atlantic R&B Recordings 3-disc set, and the DCC Uh-Huh 2-disc set, and it's a great heaping of Ray.
  24. I'd have to say the Horace Parlan, followed by J.J. Johnson and the Golson/Farmer Jazztet. But tough to narrow down.
