  1. I'm thinking about selling off my entire collection of jazz & blues CDs. I haven't made the decision yet but I'm seriously thinking about it. What I'm looking for are any suggestions as to who might be interested in buying the entire collection. I have about 7,600 CD titles (80% jazz, 15% blues, 5% early country/cajun/gospel/folk). Lots of Mosaic, Bear Family, OOP box sets, imports, rarities etc. Some of the items are still sealed. I also have a few hundred LPs and hundreds of books. I'm located in the midwest so I contacted Dusty Groove in Chicago and they seemed interested. I also contacted the Jazz Record Mart (also in Chicago) and they seemed to be less interested because they'd have to travel to get the collection (Dusty Groove didn't seem to mind that). I know that The Jazz Record Center in NY buys collections but only jazz. Might anyone have any other suggestions as to where to look for a company to buy this collection? Thanks!
  2. Not sure if this is "new release" material or a re-issue with some bonus tracks maybe, but it looks like Elemental Music is putting out this CD along with a 40 page booklet in a digipack in September. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-Fat-Tuesdays-Digipack-booklet/dp/B0125PLWOA/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1438783371&sr=1-1&keywords=art+pepper+fat No listing yet at Amazon U.S. or on the Elemental website but I'm sure it will appear soon.
  3. Info for the Beehive set is up at Mosaic!!! End of August is the date!!!
  4. So in the near future Mosaic will be giving us an 8 disc Lester Young set, a 12 disc Beehive set, and a James P. Johnson set? Why doesn't Mosaic just break into my house and beat me to death with my own wallet.
  5. Wow! This is really incredible. This could easily be the release of the year!!
  6. I ordered this nearly two weeks ago from Fresh Sound and it has yet to arrive.
  7. I'm pretty sure Rockbeat Records is a legit label. They've put out some interesting things.
  8. Release date just changed from Late April to May 5th. Hopefully the boxes will start shipping out very soon!!
  9. Nice post! If anyone is interested I would heartily recommend William's Carter excellent book Preservation Hall: Music From The Heart. http://www.amazon.com/PRESERVATION-HALL-MUSIC-HEART-BAYOU/dp/1871478014/ref=sr_1_10?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1430236516&sr=1-10&keywords=preservation+hall
  10. Even though I believe I have all (or nearly all) of this material, there's no way I can resist this set!
  11. I'm sure I read recently that Jazzology is going to be putting out a Ma Rainey set (although I don't know why they didn't do this years ago). I totally agree that Jazzology has dropped the ball on the Paramount stuff. I personally can't blame outfits like Document and JSP for putting out stuff when the proper owners refuse to.
  12. Does anybody have any info on this book which is due out very shortly? http://www.amazon.com/dp/1843822237/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2GW3WTOB57QL6&coliid=I3BSVO8CDADQH0 I'm not sure what to make of it since the description misses Hackett's date of death by 15 years. Not an encouraging sign. I had head that Jazzology Press was putting out a Hackett book at some point but it doesn't look like this is it. Any info would be appreciated.
  13. Jeff Crom you have a much bigger brain than I do. I've ordered a lot from LMF over the years but somehow never thought to give them a call. I even know they don't have their entire stock online but still it didn't occur to me. Anyway, I gave them a call and they did have one used copy of the Kid Thomas In Japan 1976 CD!! Thanks so much for the helpful hint. They didn't have the Live in Dongen set but achieving 50% of my short-term goal makes me quite happy for today. Thanks again!
  14. I just stumbled upon two Kid Thomas CDs I don't own and am hoping someone might be able to help. One is from the Delta label (which I have several of) and the other I haven't seen before. Kid Thomas Valentine Algiers Stompers
Dongen
26/06/1983 Holland KID THOMAS in JAPAN in 1976 DELTA DLCD-1007 JAPAN If anyone out there has a copy to sell or can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  15. Does anybody have any news as to whether the Condon/Freeman set will be next up after Dial?
  16. Wow! Although I have the great majority of these Condon tracks I am absolutely thrilled about this set! Eddie Condon's Commodore tracks were some of the very first jazz I ever heard and it set me on the classic/trad jazz track for life. Having all of Eddie's Commodore and Decca tracks in one awesome Mosaic package is a dream come true! Thanks for the news Peter!
  17. Delmark is releasing a Buddy Tate session from Sackville in September that hasn't been on CD before. The great Texas tenor delivers the goods on this 1978 quartet session featuring the rhythm section of Wray Downes (piano), Dave Young (bass) and Pete Magadini (drums). Tate's first big break came in 1939 when at the age of 26 he joined the Count Basie band and took a killer solo on Rock A Bye Basie. After ten years with Basie, Tate led his own band for a twenty-year stint at Harlem's Celebrity Club, toured Europe, made club appearances and numerous recordings. Remixed from the original analog tapes this is the first issue on CD of this album. 1. June Night 2. If You Could See Me Now 3. Someday Sweetheart 4. Bye Bye Blackbird 5. Georgia On My mind 6. Alone Together 7. I'll Remember April http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LP82UQS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2GW3WTOB57QL6&coliid=I1HYT6YFFVPAUM Looks good to me! P.S. - This CD is not to be confused with the recent Storyville Records 2CD packaging of two Tate sessions which also carries the same Texas Tenor title.
  18. Thanks so much and I hope you enjoy the discs and book!

  20. His '700 Sundays' show which was recently broadcast on HBO had a wonderful 15 minutes or so chunk about growing up in the jazz world. Billy's uncle was, of course, Milt Gabler and his dad ran the Commodore music shop and put on jazz concerts. He had a nice story about Billie Holiday taking him to see 'Shane' and a little joke about Zutty Singleton too. I guess I'm just happy any time jazz gets some attention.
