  1. I think it's mostly breath condensation.
  2. If it was engineered in a lab it gives an idea of what exactly they're doing in there; you and me will probably never know either way, but I'm sure some level of government knows pretty well what happened.
  3. Presto has the hi res 24/96 download for 1/3 of the price of the 2lp set.
  4. Here's some insight into the arcane structure of one of the big three: https://www.universalmusic.com/universal-music-classics-jazz-announces-new-global-structure/ Interesting off-handed reference to Blue Note at the end. BN seems to fit in the Capitol Music Group like shoes on the fish pictured above.
  5. The weird thing I don't quite understand is that, while classical music and jazz seem to be just about neck and neck in sales and overall consumption ( at the bottom), we seem to be enjoying a golden age of classical reissues including many obscure recording artists besides the mega-boxes that seem to take more and more space in my house, while in jazz it's crickets... Not sure how many albums Blue Note has released in its history, but if they would put out everything in a series of 100 cd boxes, I'd be interested.
  6. They came out on labels like Avid, Enlightenment, etc. Looking at some of these sets on amazon.ca I noticed something strange: they have in the "Manufacturer" and "Label" fields Universal Music, or Universal Music Canada: https://www.amazon.ca/Classic-Albums-1954-1960-Clifford-Brown/dp/B00PCWGAFU https://www.amazon.ca/Complete-Albums-Collection-1956-64-5CD/dp/B0124KY5RC/ https://www.amazon.ca/Twelve-Classic-Albums-Eric-Dolphy/dp/B00NW6KONW/ Is this a case of if you can't beat them join them?
  7. If you missed out on this, it seems to be in stock for a reasonable price at amazon.de: https://www.amazon.de/Miles-Davis/dp/B002EOF7U8/ref=pd_sim_36?pd_rd_w=j8b66&pf_rd_p=9a7fe8f3-0fa4-47a4-8b98-93a5088bcc79&pf_rd_r=QHFYGMQVW3TFJYWXHG97&pd_rd_r=1ecaf68e-ee42-4c89-80ba-4dd4d24edbf6&pd_rd_wg=uFsbR&pd_rd_i=B002EOF7U8&psc=1
  8. Elly Ney from 1956: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HxuHEr8mHo
  9. https://www.talkclassical.com/28254-new-releases.html This thread in the Talk Classical forum stays on top of these things pretty well.
  10. Preorder at HMV Japan with a release date of April 20; available right now on Tidal. The Beethoven Quartet played from the 30's to the 70's, these recordings are from the late 60's and early 70's, and somehow they sound like a single musician playing all the instruments at the same time. For me this is the greatest Beethoven quartet cycle ever recorded, very happy it's finally available!
  11. Also Afanassiev on ECM. So what were Badura-Skoda and his wife doing, return off center pressings?
  12. Miles Davis Complete 1963-64 Columbia recordings, the vinyl set. Seems to be quite rare now.
  13. The mother (or father) of all box sets!... Ordered instantly. https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/1427-ingmar-bergman-s-cinema
  14. Ordered the deluxe vinyl edition. 11383 sounds very good!
  15. The reality is that the material that Mosaic tends to issue is de facto public domain by now, for better or worse. On top of it, LP sized boxes filled with cd's might have worked 20 years ago, but not so much now. Would it be impossible for them to licence some of this material for high resolution transfers and put them on blu ray discs? I would be very interested.

    Yes

    They could also do this:
  17. Contains a pure LP from the DSD master...It don't get no purer than that!
