With Mal Waldron's ability to bring the best out of (even local) players the expectations are as usual high ....
Definitely. Blood and Guts, Number Nineteen and Tokyo Bound are some great examples of Mal making excellent records with local musicians.

I didn't ask too many details, keeping some elements of surprise, so not sure. But I think it is a quartet date, and like often with Sam records was recorded in Paris. Maybe @Pim could make an educated guess based on this?
I looked up the mail from Fred but I now see he did not give any details on format or personell. Mal was a very busy bee in those years, playing with so many musicians. I’d say chances are big it’s a trio date with some local musicians but it could be anything really

There’s a couple of live versions on the Village Vanguard tapes or isn’t that what you meant?

That’s one I could listen to for hours.
now playing:
32 Jazz is notorious for their ugly artwork which looks like it was made in Microsoft Word 1995 edition… but now that I am listening to it on headphones I can’t say I really like the sound either. Way too much bass in my right ear. I don’t know how the original copies sound. Anyway this session deserves a proper reissue on cd and vinyl. But that goes for a large part of the Muse catalogue.

Always thought this is sounding like a mid60's NDR Jazzworkshop session ....
Don’t know how those sound but the Shihab record is very nice. Not a five star thing but definitely more than average. Worth having very well!

Which ones did he mention? I know there’s a 1969 Mal Waldron trio session upcoming I a looking very much forward to.

many, and for as long as I can remember...
Really? Wasn’t aware of it. Are people actually creating a false copy or are they trying to make different pressing look like an original?

Have there been cases of fake LP scams yet? One might say that would be a lucrative business these days and an LP might be easier to falsify than a painting?

😍 .... btw Vol. 2 features "Isabel The Liberator" with Carter Jefferson on 🔥fire🔥 ....
Oh yes the whole series is great. But if if I had to pick one

lovely series on High Note this is. Volume 1 is my favorite for the presence of Carter Jefferson and the compositions like Love Dance and Why. Stafford James plays some serious bass here

I am very sensitive to the whole vinyl hype but might go for the cd's of Waldron and the Adderleys this time as well. I believe the Elemental LP's don't have the best reputation plus the Waldron was digitally recorded anyway. Some time to think about it.

His initial post is a link to the Hoffman board thread he started.
Whoops sorry did not see that.

Ok, it is time for still one more "bash" Oscar Peterson thread.
Well if you have enough time… there’s always this:

Have you tried the Hoffman board? More chance you’ll get your answer there

Thinking about it. I still have an ancient Pioneer PL-516 that I paid $15 for.

How do you like that Rega turntable?
Like it a lot. Sounds warm and lifelike, easy to use and nice design. Very satisfied. Are you considering buying one yourself? I know @Rabshakehhas the P3 which an upgrade to the P2 but of course also more expensive.

My 2 cents: Take the received opinion, whatever it may be, with a grain of salt. Listen for yourself. As much as possible, be sympathetic to the artists' intentions.
Decide using your own ears. If it sounds good (to you), it is good.
The fact that there are such wildly disparate opinions on OP among informed, long-time jazz listeners should tell us something about the nature of musical experience. It is manifold.
Those are some valuable two cents. My thoughts exactly. This thread is a years long Oscar Peterson diss thread with the same accusations over and over again.
I have a love/hate relationship with OP. I love a lot of the Verve and MPS trio stuff. The records with Ray Brown, Sam Jones, Bobby Durham and Ed Thigpen. I do not like his presence on the works of Getz, Ben Webster and Coleman Hawkins nor do I like the Pablo records. I could very well understand why people don’t like his style. As a personality, musician and for his legacy he deserves the respect a true jazz musician deserves.

Any views on the Jazz a Confronto series? They're a frequent feature of vinyl fairs. What was the concept meant to be?
Some mention above of the Enrico Rava but does anyone rate any of the others?
I've got the Waldron. Nothing special, he made much better records in those years.

Hurray after two trashed sleeves finally a good copy. Now I am not as sensitive as some listeners but: I could definitely hear this is a huge improvement from the 75th anniversary version. Glad I managed to sell that one

Never heard of him either. You might want to try and contact the drummer of the album? I found a mail address on his partly defunct website:

I should have been more clear. With local I did not necessarily mean amateur. But they were local and never really got a superstar status while they all really shine on those Waldron records. Isla Eckingers bass playing is stunning for example.
