Whole batch of Mosaic Selects and Singles running low
erwbol replied to miles65's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Still €44.99 at Jazzmessengers, but this means they will likely raise the price soon. -
Ah. Is the Live in Japan album the best disc of that Select?
-
The new non-SHM low priced edition of Out To Lunch does not have the two alternate takes according to hmv.co.jp.
-
The Charles Tolliver has only four tracks ('Round Midnight is missing) compared to this release.
-
Some are already at 2 to 4 weeks availability at CD Japan.

On The Sunny Side Of The Street. Same as Back at the Chicken Shack RVG?

"Trick or treat!" I can feel Phil waving just out of view of the camera.

Fuck Zwarte Piet. I completely fail to understand the hysterics about preserving tradition regarding Zwarte Piet. It seems most Dutch could use a history lesson and what is so horrible about a multicoloured Piet anyway?

Damn, I've slept on the RFH 2004 disc for too long. I was at the gig - very good, maybe not life-changing though There are still copies available for under £10 at amazon.co.uk.

That is disappointing. I feel like I'm constantly playing catch up with artists known and unknown to me. Anthony Braxton Quintet (2004) London Royal Festival Hall has also sold out. I'm glad I finally bought it in the recent past. When I tuned in to the BBC Jazz On 3 broadcast in 2004 and heard Jez Nelson describe the gig as life changing the music was still too far out for me.

Tempting indeed. Not Leo but CIMP, but earlier I went for the two CDs of mostly Andrew Hill compositions (and one Wayne Shorter and George Coleman each) by this band. Ten Compositions (quartet) 2000 CIMP #225 and Nine Compositions (Hill) 2000 CIMP #236. Highly recommended.

I think I'll get Appleby, Natives and Aliens, and Braxton/Parker Duo 1993. I'd have to order in fours, so if I can find two more discs to go with the first two Ivo Perelman's Steve suggested...

Three SHMs from the October batch. The plan was to wait until 2015.

I can deal with a couple of pages, say at most 10% of text and photos. -

Like Big Beat Steve I am wondering how many pages of text and photos are devoted to the resurrected Blue Note, especially artists like Norah Jones? -

Review at telegraph.co.uk. "This book tells the story with amiable, but rather unfocused enthusiasm. Its main interest is in the lavish quantity of Wolff’s images that are reproduced, including many not used on the final cover designs. Those in search of a critical assessment of Lion and Wolff’s musical achievement would do better to seek out a copy of the late Richard Cook’s Blue Note Records: The Biography (2001). " -
thnx for sharing your impressions Thanks for the heads up on the "Workout". It's not easy to keep up with the bonus track issues. Yes, thanks. The RVG of Workout contained only one alternate of Three Coins, the Turrentine none, I believe.

If Mr. Van Gelder hadn't done the original recordings, most of the "remaster/reissue gurus" wouldn't have much to remaster and their disciples wouldn't have much to listen to, given that both seem to be addicted to Blue Note recordings. A shame the topic of digital reissues had to immediately be reanimated, but if Mr. Van Gelder hadn't bungled and butchered so many of these CD reissues his reputation would not be tarnished in the eyes of a younger generation. It would simply be based on the amazing recordings, vinyl era, and the gushing mythologising of glossy coffee table books and greying music critics. ------ Happy birthday, Rudy Van Gelder!
