I had to miss that trio at Oto last night. Enjoy it. Drake and Parker are unbelievably good in a live context.I don't know Dikeman so will be interested to hear what you make of it It was fantastic! Especially Hamid Drake made even a bigger impression on me than I could ever hoped for. What a phenomenon it is to see and hear this man in a live setting! Dikeman is a very active member in the Amsterdam scene, so I know that his preferred style of playing is very aggressive and hard blowing. Now this is normally not the kind of playing I tend to like best, but Dikeman really surprised me yesterday in that respect. Yes, it still was aggressive and hard blowing at times, but I think he dosed those moments quite well with some more introspective and even tender moments. Especially somewhere in the second set when Hamid Drake played the frame drum and William Parker some sort of wooden flute and double reeds, Dikeman accompanied them with some beautiful soft and spiritual playing.

John Dikeman / William Parker / Hamid Drake @ Bimhuis Amsterdam this Wednesday. First time that I will see the Parker/Drake tandem live so needless to say I'm exited!

Francois Carrier, Michel Lambert, Rafal Mazur - Unknowable [2015, Not Two] Carrier and Lambert where on my radar for some time now, and seeing that they have a new record out on Not Two (which means great sound quality) with Rafal Mazur seems a good way to get acquainted with them. Chamber 4 - s/t [2015,FMR] I think my favorite album from recent months is the "For Sale" album from Deux Maisons on Clean Feed, so I was highly enthusiastic when I saw this morning that three of the members (Luis Vicente, Theo Ceccaldi, Valentin Ceccaldi) released another record on FMR together with Marcelo dos Reis.

Rodrigo Amado - This is our Language [2015, Not Two] To say I'm exited for this one, is an understatement.

Nice selection I must go to Berlin How's the Shofar? I've not heard either of their releases Good to know that record stores still exist somewhere. Yes, I think there where at least 10 recordstores within a 15 minute walking distance from our appartment. And if I had more time/money I could have bought a lot more mjazzg-> I think the Shofar is fantastic! A very nice mixture of Klezmer/folk songs and freejazz, which (to me at least) feels very authentic, organic and tasteful. I think sometimes these mixtures of styles can feel a bit gimmicky and/or plastic, but this is not the case here. I think Trzaska handles the old Jewish music/tradition with respect, but at the same time transfers it to the "here and now" with his own (and those of the other players of course) artistic vision. I'm interested in your thoughts on the Joshua Abrams record. The record looks very appealing to me, but I'm kinda reluctant because of the high price of the record.

Yes, I must say I'm most intrigued by the Shofar release too. It will be my first album from them, and the music/soundclips I heard so far really impressed me emotionally. There's just something in many of those Klezmer/East European Folk songs that I find irresistible. Furthermore I'm very intrigued by the The Turbine! release, as it combines some of my favorite US and European musicians, and with a focus on rhythm I can't see how I will not love this record.

Listening to the Tyshawn Sorey right now, and also interested in the Han Bennink and Anouar Brahem sets. thks. am quite entertained listening/watching this summery right now' D'Angelo is de gek haha, little lesson in Dutch: if you say someone "is de gek", it means you say he is THE fool. I think (?) you mean he "is te gek" wich would mean you say he is really great.

To be quite honest, I'm not sure about both releases. The premise of the William Parker box already didn't really spark my enthusiasm when I first heard of it, and these samples didn't really changed that. I did had high hopes for the Darius Jones album, but boy those kind of vocals are really not my kind of thing so now I'm not sure about this either. First new albums that will be bought (after I'm back from holiday) will be the two new ones on Rogue Art and Double Basse (Benjamin Duboc, Jean-Luc Petit) - This is not Art on Clean Feed.

Well, favorite is a big word as I never compared my AKG K701 with another quality headphone. But truth is, I bought mine some five years ago ( my first "serious" piece of quality audio stuff), and never felt any need for upgrading or looking any further for what's out there because I'm 100% satisfied with them. They are open headphones, extremely comfortable (listening for four hours straight is no problem at all) and have great detail and separation of instruments. Depending on what I listen, I use them directly connected to my Accuphase amp (most of the time) or through a Heed Canamp (most of the RvG remastered Blue Note albums).

I also rearranged everything to the original albums after ripping (no burning, as listen to my music through a Squeezebox that is connected to my harddrive) this box. For me, I think it is because I consider myself an "album" kind of guy. I rarely listen to songs individually and never make my own playlists. I just always put up an album, and because I had only three Ornette albums from this box, this was a great way for me to buy a lot more from him for a low price.

It definitely was interesting. Ken always comes across as a very honest and intelligent guy who knows what it takes to survive in today's music industry.

Sad news! I also really only know him from the great Tribal Ghost release, but he is on my "musicians I should explore more" list.

Two new releases on Rogeart, and I have to say I'm extremely interested in both of them. Now those are two mouth watering line ups! The Turbine! (Benjamin Duboc, Harisson Bankhead, Hamid Drake, Ramon Lopez + special guests: William Parker, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, Lionel Garcin) - Entopy/Enthalpy Matthew Shipp Quartet Declared Enemy (Matthew Shipp, William Parker, Gerald Cleaver, Sabir Mateen) - Our Lady of the Flowers

Louis Moholo-Moholo queartet at the Bimhuis was fantastic yesterday. Very energetic, hard swinging music and the whole quartet also definately had a good time on stage with lots of collective humming/chanting. Somewhere in the second set they did a beautiful version of Ornette Coleman's Lonely Woman wich was very touching and heartfelt, I saw some people couldn't even hold back some tears; very impressive.

I think those are both very fine starting points for Waclaw Zimpel. I think it is with his Hera project that Zimpel has his most significant "own" sound. My favorite album by him is "Where my Complete Beloved Is" (also Hera); more World Music than Jazz but very deep en spiritual. Also The Passion from Undivided is a masterpiece in my book, well worth a listen.

I'm with Steve here regarding being a sucker for the fat grooves they create with the quartet. No matter what kind of music, I always loved being sucked in some hypnotic monotonous groove that gets you in a trance like state, and for me the Parker/Drake combo is perfect for doing that (Waclaw Zimpel also is one of those guys who has that ability). Regarding this kind of music, I'm also highly intrigued by the new Joshua Abrams on Eremite (Magnetoception).

Yes, the Wood Flute Songs box is essential stuff for me. I have to say that the premise of the new box set, doesn't really spark my enthusiasm so that will definately not be a release that I will buy blind. I'm more interested in the Darius Jones in that regard.
