  1. "Prospectus" is my favorite Hat Art Lacy title; followed by "morning joy" and "we see". "Stalks" and "evidence", however, would probably edge all of those out when picking favorites but really why bother? It's like picking gems from gems! Tonight's platter: Ernie Henry "presenting Ernie Henry" (riverside, white label USA orig)
  2. Jef Gilson "Malagasy" (lumen, france). Have not played this in about 10 years; a fantastic album! If I can stay awake I'll pull out the live album on Palm next...
  3. Bought my copy around 20 years ago for $10; a great album!
  4. Thanks soulpope; and I'll be ordering the Boland Trio LP on rearward you suggested as well!
  5. Ok I caved in; you've mentioned that Fats Sadi album on Saba a few times and I have been long curious about it so I just ordered a "ex" copy for $135; cheaper then most Blue Notes these days I guess :0
  6. Thanks for the tips! I don't own those..I'll add to the never ending list
  7. Meredith Monk "dolmen music" (ecm, USA) Barre Phillips "journal violone II" (ecm, Germany)
  8. Clarke-Boland sextet "swing im bahnhof" (rearward, Italy reissue). Sort of late in picking this up; I thought this label did a good job of the Sahib Shihab reissues of "summer dawn" and "seeds" and this reissue does not disappoint either. Good sonics; can't afford originals of everything!
  9. Cannonball Adderley "portrait of cannonball" (riverside, mono small label DG) Harmonia "musik Von harmonia" (Brain metronome, Germany)
  10. Sonny Rollins "the sound of Sonny" (riverside, mono). My first white label riverside! Manuel Gottsching "E2-E4" (inteam, Germany orig). First play in at least 15-20 years. Classic stuff!
  11. Gosh. Charles Mingus "presents Charles Mingus" Jackie McLean "destination out" Miles Davis "kind of blue" John Coltrane "Coltrane" Eric Dolphy "out to lunch" These are the albums I have played the most times out of all the records and CDs I own. It's leaving out MANY great albums but I just picked the 5 records I have probably listened to the most times in my life thus far.
  12. Lee Morgan "search for the new land" (blue note, stereo "ear" ny USA). I bought this some years ago in pristine condition...I know a lot of collectors prefer mono but I honestly think stereo Blue Notes sound better after 1963 or so...definitely a more spacious sound.
  13. A long day so tonight I enjoyed a 6 pack with these records: Cannonball Adderley "sophisticated swing" (emarcy, USA) Benny Golson "the modern touch" (riverside, mono USA) Jackie McLean "destination out" (blue note, mono NY ear USA) Black Unity Trio "al-fatihah" (salaam, USA)
  14. ? "Space who" is the only Japanese Lacy I am missing...although I'm not too bent out of shape about it because it was more or less a vanity pressing put out by the owner of the Egg Farm in Japan. Thankfully a friend once lent his copy to me so I could record it.
  15. Toshiko Mariano "Toshiko meets her old pals" (King, Japan DG original). Great 1961 album with Sadao Watanabe, Akira Miyazawa, Masahiko Togashi, Takeshi Inomata, etc. The few originals are credited to Toshiko Mariano so I guess she was still married to Charlie at this time...
  16. Pink Floyd "saucerful of secrets" (Columbia U.K. 1st issue). Bought this for maybe $10 20 years ago...it's in pristine condition and sounds amazing.
  17. Bill Evans "portrait in jazz" (riverside, USA mono) bought this today from a friend who recently found the first "small label" issue so sold me his second (circa 1962?) mono issue for a good price. Interesting to see the original and second issue side by side. Besides the small DG label on the first issue there is also the clearer photographs on both the front and rear. Anyway this second issue is super pristine and I actually have never owned this session before. Blue Mitchell "out of the blue" (riverside, mono small label DG USA). Great album...a rare discogs bargain from a few months ago.
  18. Yeah can't have 'em all. I just have the CD of the first AMM album too... Tonight's playlist: Marion Brown "juba lee" (Fontana, Holland). First spin in nearly 15 years Kenneth Lee Wells "music for dark kites" (empty bridge, USA)
  19. Oooh...that one bugs me. I'm totally happy with the alga marghen CD, yet I know it wouldn't take too much to buy an original ($200 or so?) so sometimes I think about it. However if I follow that logic with every record I like I'd have to remortgage my house :0
  20. Davies and Teitelbaum together? Lucky you! I'm afraid Vancouver does not quite match up to New York in terms of amount of cool shows Apparently MEV will be returning to the "reckless abandonment" of their early years for this show - that's what the promo blurb says anyways - so I'm looking forward to how that goes. Benny Golson night: Benny Golson "the other side of" (riverside, mono USA DG) Benny Golson "the modern touch" (riverside, mono USA DG) Benny Golson "gone with Golson" (New Jazz, USA DG)
  21. Agreed. Though the "sonic arts Union" remains my fave of this series by far. Looking forward to seeing MEV live in Vancouver in November!!
  22. Blue Mitchell "step lightly" (blue note, King Japan wlp promo) Hank Mobley "poppin" (blue note, King Japan promo) liner notes by Larry Kart; name rings a bell
  23. But if you're never in the mood for it then why wait for when you'll be in the mood for it?
  24. A few more picks from my retired friends collection: Lou Donaldson "quartet, quintet. Sextet" (blue note, Lexington) Jutta Hipp "live at the hickory house vol.1" (blue note, Lexington) Kenny Burrell "introducing Kenny Burrell" (blue note, Lexington) All 3 have marks, scuffs, and scratches but no skips and play surprisingly quite good! These old blue notes are work horses and for $25 each I won't complain in the least considering the covers are all quite nice!
