  1. Great Malec album. I'm a big fan of his "triola" record on INA/GRM as well. where did you find the "sart" shirt!? Or did you make it yourself? I once made a Slint "tweez" t-shirt in college art class because I needed to fulfill a demand the market was not meeting haha..
  2. Usually on the actual record label and/or bottom rear of cover.
  3. Jan Garbarek "sart" (ECM, Germany). A total classic along with "Afric pepperbird" and "triptykon". This copy is my second mint German copy because years ago I found out my first copy had a "LC" code which meant it was pressed after 1976. Yes I'm a collector nerd.
  4. Tony Oxley "ichnos" (RCA, UK) Tony Oxley/Alan Davie "workshop" (private, UK) Have not spinned these in at least 10 years...excellent music.
  5. Pastels "sittin pretty" (homestead, USA) total nostalgic trip Ora "isle" (three poplars, Germany) a more recent nostalgic trip; was looking through my records tonight and realized I have tons of Andrew Chalk, Christoph Heemann, and related records that I have not played in many years. Listening to this now confirms that now, as in back then, Ora was particularly great.
  6. Ugh used to own an original Prestige copy of this years ago but sold it in a moment of stupidity around 20 years ago. tonight's playlist: Dexter Gordon "our man in Paris" (blue note, NY USA stereo ear) Hank Mobley etc "the jazz message" (savoy, USA orig DG red labels) Takehisa Kosugi "catch wave" (Sony, Japan)
  7. Yeah I hear you. Sure it's rarer then James Last and Nana Mouskouri! I only have one JazzWest original lp and it's not a great pressing at all so yr probably right.
  8. Paul Chambers "jazz delegation from the east" (score, USA). Likely will never find/afford the original jazz-west issue so this slightly later issue will do. A good session but not quite the sum of its parts that I had hoped. Art Blakey "ritual" (world pacific, mono DG USA). Now this on the other hand is a stunner; excellent album. Clifford Thornton "communications network" (third world, USA). Hmmm..finally got a NM copy but wow it's sort of a badly recorded album and a bit unfocused. But Nathan Davis is on it...do I keep it? I'm on the fence with this one...
  9. I'm only familiar with ESG because Unrest covered an ESG tune on their sub pop 7"! Last two records for the night: Dexter Gordon "a Swingin affair" (blue note, mono NY ear) Andrew Hill "black fire" (blue note, mono NY ear)
  10. Jimmy Woods "conflict" (contemporary, mono white label)
  11. I agree; if pressed to choose between many tremendous Coltrane albums I would have to pick "Giant Steps". Was extremely lucky earlier this year to get an original mint black label USA Atlantic pressing for $40 Canadian. My friend had two copies - a deep groove and non deep groove copy. He wanted to keep one of them so I chose the non-deep groove copy as I've heard a few times that this pressing is a superior one?
  12. Paul Smoker performed at one of the first jazz concerts I saw. Probably around 1993? It was a trio with Phil Haynes and Michael Bisio; possibly with Marilyn Crispell too. I recall enjoying it...
  13. I think this forum is for vinyl nerds and the "what are you listening to" forum is for CD nerds. Vinyl is my preferred format so I love reading this forum to potentially discover gems I had never heard about. The pressing details are a bit superfluous but I appreciate them..and really is it that big a deal? We can't nerd out just a tiny bit? And in many cases, speaking as a music fan, the format and pressing can make a big difference in the SOUND of the music we all love.
  14. Haha...yup. I stand by my opinion of it; I don't need to be a completist.
  15. Funny; what I thought was my final stereo upgrade a few years back was just that - speakers and receiver/amplifier. Bought a pair of second hand Paradigm studio 60 v2s and a new Anthem MRX500 amp. Maybe if Santa is good to me this Christmas I'll investigate a Dynavector like yours - at least it's high output so I would not have to buy an additional phono stage to power it!
  16. Dammit I don't want to hear that!! My audiophile friend praises them too, but he sinks a lot of money into multiple tonearms, cartridges, turntables, amps, etc, etc, whereas I sink my money into records and CDs!
  17. Yikes it looks nice, but that's beyond my price point. I'm quite happy with my AT440mla fit on a RB300 arm on a systemdek IIx. It's a mix that provides quite stunning sound for the dollars invested.
  18. I was like 16-18 at the time but I guess I looked older as I rarely got carded at clubs! And there were all ages shows too. Green River is worth checking out too; especially the Homestead ep and the "dry as a bone" ep.
  19. Nostalgic day today, huh? Mudhoney were awesome back in the day..still prefer the early stuff and saw them many times around 1990-91..killer live band. Last time I saw them was just after Lukin left the band and it was at a small tavern in Bellingham. Got there to find it sold out..spotted Mark Arm walking on the street and ran up to him to say how my friends and I had driven almost an hour from Vancouver to see them and it was sold out. He said no worries and put us on the guest list! He also appreciated my vintage 1989 mudhoney shirt too which maybe helped!
  20. Hmm have not paid attention to this band in some years but have fond memories of seeing them live a few times circa the Simple Machines era. Great band.
  21. Points taken. I'll revisit maybe when I'm 75 Or sooner...
  22. I love Grant Green but never bothered picking this one up. It's sort of a (running for cover right now) boring session. Give me "Sunday morning", "idle moments", "talkin about", etc any day. On paper it should be killer but...yeah..just does not excite me.
  23. Joe Henderson "inner urge" (blue note, stereo ear)
  24. Tonight I'm spinning the same two albums I played last night because I enjoyed them so much! Oliver Nelson "screaming the blues" (New Jazz, DG orig) Larry Young "inta somethin!" (Blue note, mono ear)
  25. Is #2 Abdullah Ibrahim/Dollar Brand?
