  1. Hope there's a James Brandon Lewis pop-up - so far he's only playing with the Messthetics.
  2. Please reveal your BFT 239 contribution

  4. Slight update from website using above link: 2/23: Volume 11 just landed here at HQ today and Volume 8 should be here in the next day or two. We're currently preparing orders, and as soon as Vol. 8 arrives, we will begin shipping. Planning for this round to be all shipped by the end of next week. Thank you again to all subscribers and listeners of the series - We truly appreciate your patience during the delays. The Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra live at IUCC series is a monumental set of unheard recordings from 1978-80. Recorded live at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in south central LA, this is the Arkestra in its purest, rawest, and most adventurous form. The next 3 volumes are planned for shipment mid-March. We can't wait to share the remainder of the series in the coming weeks. Check back here for bi-weekly(ish) updates Bright Moments, NIMBUS WEST
  5. @DanGould Big band with some tasteful wah-wah guitar, so mid 60s or later, probably not 90s or later. @DrJ Thought of Westbrooks, but remember comments that Kate's voice was edgy, and this one isn't. Then I thought of Herbie's The River, but those don't sound like Joni lyrics @Felser I think the tenor is Billy Harper (high praise). @Joe This segued into the next tune so well I had to wonder if you planned it!. Jimmy Guiffre? @JSngry The tradition in all it's vitality. Illinois Jacquet? @KenDryden Swinging the pipe organ behind a primo tenor. @medjuk Is that cowbell? Infectious rhythm and alto lead voice. @mikeweil Brazilian sounding treatment of classic bebop (Well You Needn't?? no. Night in Tunisia?? I don't think so .... aaarggh!) @mjzee Not the tune by this name, but it is Kinda Dukish @tkeith Fiddle and bone sharing the spotlight. Billy Bang?
  6. A mere formality, since everyone knew it instantly! RandyHersom: Roy Haynes Quartet - Moon River from Out of the Afternoon, Impulse Rahsaan Roland Kirk - reeds Henry Grimes - Bass Tommy Flanagan - Piano Roy - Drums
  7. Side B track 1 The Count on Rush Street
  8. Big Al - Smooth wind arrangement behind piano Dan Gould - The slickness of the arrangement had me thinking Dule Pearson for moment, but I think the bluesy tenor is probably the leader. danasgoodstuff - solo piano, perhaps more than one. Is this The Wind Cries Mary from Three Pianos for Jimi Dub Modal - Bop. When I hear Bird-like facility in a later recording I think Sonny Stitt or Charles McPherson Eric - First thought was Dolphy, but I'm thinking Jackie McLean mjazzg - hypnotic, probably the bassman's date. Buster Williams? randyhersom - TD is right. Rooster-Ties - I felt sure the tenor was Wayne, but the band was more Crossings era Herbie sidewinder - Billy Harper? webbcity - composition reminds me a little of Ted Curson's Quicksand
  9. I identified the trio version of Snake Johnson on another BFT some time back, but even on relisten it doesn't feel like the same composition. Both great, but very different.
  10. I was mainly thinking of who the vocalist could be.
  11. Could #1 be the Clayton Brothers?
  12. Very much so. I sleuthed Fungii Mama with a Google Search and streamed the album. If I compare a player to Tatum, I'm definitely not saying they suck! Anyway good session from younger players that left us too soon. I pronounce this a no clinkers BFT.
