  1. Good news indeed! This band deserves the Mosaic treatment.
  2. Re: Keep That Groove Goin' ABSOLUTELY AGREE!
  3. Tony Bennett! Now that's a reallllllyyyyy big head...
  4. To me it's pretty basic, blues is "a feeling" and when it's genuine I dig it. I've been into all types of blues for 40+ years and have listened to and known many great bluesmen famous & obscure. There's black blues and there's white blues and sometimes they merge. There is also a lot of stuff that tries to masquerade as the blues but ain't. What blues is really about is self-expression; when you think of blues as a structured style of playing you are missing the point!
  5. One of the big incentives to buy the sets is the "limited" aspect. If that policy really changes, I would think sales would decrease. I know I would probably have put off buying a set or two if I knew they would be issued again.
  6. I have the original 1965 Prestige lp-it's a single album with four lengthy tracks (40 minutes worth): Soul People, Sonny's Book, "C" Jam Blues and a medley of I Can't Get Started/Masquerade Is Over. Pairing Stitt with Ervin was pure genius!
  7. I can't help but wonder how strong Mosaic sales are at retail outlets. There is a Border's here with a fairly large jazz section that has had the Peggy Lee/June Christy set on their shelf forever with no takers (maybe I should buy it). Same price as the website. I'll bet most Mosaic buyers prefer to deal directly with them-unless we're talking oop sets.
  8. Here's another "thumbs up" for the Jacquet box! I've got the lp set, sound is excellent on these. For me the playing of Jacquet's brother Russell was an unexpected delight on some of these sessions.
  9. Bill Charlap, Geri Allen, Herbie Hancock and Horace Parlan (I think he's still kicking...)
  10. I have always been partial to "The Italian Sessions", Baker plays with a lot of fire here. And Rene Thomas & Bobby Jaspar are great on this one as well. No vocals, and that's a good thing... B)
  11. Yeah, I miss it too, but the more I see of this board, the more I like it. More of the old BNBB vibe I think. The AAJ is ok too, but I'm hoping this one takes hold with most of the old crew.
  12. Stan is THE MAN no doubt about it! Another great Mosaic with Stan (and brother Tommy on trumpet!) is the Horace Parlan set-and you get Booker Ervin & Grant Green too, it smokes. I recently found a copy of a 1959 Max Roach lp w both Turrentines "Quiet As It's Kept" on Mercury-Stan had that unique sound right from the start. I think this session is on the Max Roach Mosaic set. It's all great, and the Hustlin' RVG is not to be missed either!
  13. I haven't demo'd one yet, but have heard nothing but rave reviews on the NuVista. I'm gonna upgrade soon and this one is definitely on my short list! B3'er, I dig your board and hope to visit regularly-maybe we can pick up where the good part of BNBB left off...glad you're keepin' it greasy. B)
