  2. picked up fluid motion w/ sam rivers and the eels electro-shock blues live disc (limited edition only available at cdbaby) a while back. great service. and if i remember correctly, they throw in a 10- or 15%-off coupon good on your next purchase.
  3. john lee hooker - live at newport (1964)
  4. 95 long years as a mostly underappreciated musician. perhaps there's something to be said for the socialist's model of top-notch free universal healthcare for the entire population. or maybe it was simply the cigars.
  5. i'll throw into the mix getz's version of "autumn leaves" from the roost recordings.
  6. "arcanum moderne" is the name of the new one. and it's currently available (on hatology as you mentioned). i haven't heard it yet. though pretty much everything the eskelin/black/parkins trio has released so far is great. heck, just about everything released on hat is great. hopefully others can provide comments on this one. as for other recommendations, "12 (+1) imaginary views" is probably my favorite followed by "one great day" and "kulak 29 & 30". you really can't go wrong with any of his releases on hat. however, some of the them have recently gone oop and may not be readily available. check out his website for all things eskelin - ellery eskelin
  7. thanks everyone for the information - exactly what i was looking for. i think i'll pick this one up over the weekend.
  8. saw this one at a local music shop. it's on the natasha label. in addition to the davis tracks there are a handful by lennie tristano. amg lists personnel but no session info. can anyone provide some details? gsb
  9. joe pernice. similiar early influences (the clash, nick drake, elvis costello) and stylistic approach as smith. one hell of a songwriter. start with the world won't end by his band the pernice brothers. there's also a solo album and side project called chappaquiddick skyline.
  10. africabrass, thanks for the tip on furthurnet. and for the welcome on the elliott smith thread.
  11. i too would like to put vote in for rabih abou-khalil. i've really been enjoying cactus of knowledge lately.
  12. i see that some copies of pig lib are being packaged with a 5 song bonus ep. my local cd shop is charging a few extra bucks for this version. has anybody listened to the ep? is it worth the extra money?
  13. smith's former band, heatmiser, is also worth checking out. particularly their final album, mic city sons. a bit rougher around the edges than his solo work. heatmiser also included sam coomes, now of quasi with janet weiss (sleater kinney). and neil gust now of no.2. smith appears on both no.2 albums and a couple of quasi's.
