Gee, if only there was a closer with a long history of closing that was still only 30 or so, and even had a history with the Atlanta team....but, instead we hear nope, not likely. Oh, of course not, the Mets, Phils, and Nats all improved themselves over the winter. What did the Braves, with all these millions coming off the books from dead contracts do? Sign Josh Donaldson, for 23 million for some reason. We were told that we didn't have to hunt in the bargain aisles anymore, we could shop in any aisle now! So, other than JD, we signed Brian McCann to a ridiculously low contract (2 mil) saving on Suzuki that signed for 5 mil with the nats. And after Nick Markakis became an all star for the first time, (14 HR's 93 RBI's, 297, .366, faded at the end played in 162 games, a mistake) in the final year of a 3 year, 33 mil contract, what happened? after not finding someone better, they re-signed him for 4 million!!! A take it or leave it offer cuz, old (they say) Then Ronald Acuna to a team friendly contract, then Ozzie Albies to a terrible (for him) contract that works out to 5 mil average a season for something like 7 seasons, with all this money saved.....nope, can't afford Kimbrel. Just keep watching the weak bullpen sap the heart of the team and fans game after game (to be fair they were good in the D.H. against Cleveland yesterday) and watching Liberty Media roll in the big bucks.... Still can't believe since it looks like Kimbrel is asking for less years, that no one has signed him, and now it's almost the end of April. Yeah, I know draft pick forfeiture. plus, winning really doesn't matter in the minors...one reason you see more teams wanting to sign high school pitchers, is the fact college pitchers, especially in say Texas....get overworked, and their arms suffer , at least early on. A team in AAA, hoping to move up to the majors...can't just imagine how much they would push 20 Y.O. pitchers, til half the pitchers were having T.J. surgery over the winter? Have been tempted to grab it, and it's dirt cheap right now.... some of these old shows, when you think back on them, seemed so corny....yet, when I watch old shows like Cannon, Mannix, Kojak, etc....they wear better than I would have thought....especially the first few seasons....same goes for Hawaii 5-0, but....it had quality control issues. It can also be amazingly bad , both actingwise, and storywise.

Magnum, if your expectations aren't too high, can still be a lot of fun, chiefly because of the camaraderie, between Magnum, Rick, T.C. and Higgins....there are a few bomb shows (Like the "real" episode wasn't ready, so run this one we just wrote in an hour) others, like when a cruel Vietnam era colonel killed a friend of Magnum, who rushed ahead to Magnum's car after they had been up all night to see the sunrise, and was blown up (instead of Magnum of course) and when it looked like the Colonel was going to be able to get away with it , Magnum asked him, did you see the sunrise today? the Colonel said yes, and Magnum shot him...saw it 20+ years later the first time, still gave me chills.... Anyway, you can get the seasons dirt cheap now... In the late 80's, my Dad and I flew out west to see some British friends of his, he had known since the 50's, who were on their first trip to the U.S. . They came with a few other couples from England. One couple happened to mention Higgins, and when I asked them if they thought for a guy from Texas, he did a decent British accent....they were shocked to find out he wasn't born and raised in England!
