  5. The first 3 volumes are recommended; the last 3 are def only for those with an overwhelming love for this music.

    This looks like fun: https://theseconddisc.com/2019/11/25/hey-good-lookin-bmg-collects-hank-williams-complete-mothers-best-recordings-on-new-6-cd-box-set/

TBH the best way I've found to make music sound better is to get drunk. Maybe I should market a brand of audiophile vodka.

NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID just means the SSL certificate expired and hasn't been renewed yet. Little things don't get taken care of when you get sick, so that only makes sense. What bothers me in situations like this is when the recipient doesn't make a public appearance to verify that it's on the up and up. "As a humble and very private man who has always been the strength in both his family and his community, he wouldn't dare complain or ask for help" This is what Facebook is for.

To get that special Black Ark sound, Lee Perry used to blow ganja smoke over the tapes, then bury them in his back yard. Anyone tried that?

This is true. I can see how following some of these practices could produce a sense of satisfaction that you're doing everything possible to squeeze the maximum amount of enjoyment out of your musical listening. OTOH, this sword cuts both ways. If you feel that your music sounds worse when you listen in the daylight or you have to restart the CD from the beginning every time you get up to use the bathroom, then your expectation bias is working against you.

So, how come a CD sounds better if you stop it and then press play, rather than playing it from pause? Because, dear readers, we can assure you they do. We haven't heard a definitive explanation. Nevertheless, in our experience doing things this way just sounds that bit better. No wonder so many people are willing to believe climate change isn't real. Woo is everywhere in our culture.

No I'm saying imagine these two scenarios: 1) You hear that Kenny Burrell has started a GFM because he's in desperate need of money right now. 2) You get a fundraising letter from Jazz Foundation in the mail asking for a donation. It says your money will help unnamed artists at some unspecified time in the future. Now imagine you recently read an article in the news about yet another charity scandal, such as the Wounded Warrior Project. Which scenario is more likely to make you reach for your credit card? I'm not saying either is right or wrong. I'm saying I can see why the GFM raised so much money. If JF had been smart it would have used KB's GFM as a fundraisiing tool for itself.
  14. What Classical Music Are You Listening To?

Is it just me or does he look like Peter Lorre? Just reinforces my conviction that classical recordings should not put the musicians on the cover.

Are you saying that the $150K above the original request might have been donated to the Jazz Foundation instead in different circumstances? That's assuming 1) JF were doing a good job of fundraising, which it doesn't seem to be, and 2) KB's donors would have responded to a request for donations to JF in the same way. I think KB's campaign was so successful because people saw it as a way to immediately and directly help one beloved person, whereas it's not so gratifying to give money to a foundation to be spent on some old jazz guy you've never even heard of.
