  1. Just heard from a reliable source.
  2. I'll second The Nifty Cat. It's a great, swingin', session.
  3. Can anybody give me a refresher on the two drummers that are named Bobby Durham? I kind of vaguely remember this being discussed some years ago but remember none of the details.
  4. I was 17 years old and watching TV with my father that Sunday when Oswald was shot. My father immediately said "He's being shut up." I've been reading "Crossfire" by Jim Marrs recently. It discusses many of the assassination theories pro and con. Among the facts, however, is that over 50% of people interviewed who were in Dealey Plaza that day said that they heard shots coming from the Grassy Knoll, among them Governor Connally, who was in the car with JFK and was wounded. Abe Zapruder, who shot the famous footage, said that the shots came fro0m behind him (The Grassy Knoll.)
  5. Never understood the negativity about Rouse. He always sounded fine to me.

    Chuck Rainey

Bad news! I'm hoping and praying for him.
  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS!! A good reason to have a sfogliatelle !
  8. I'm in for a download. Thanks!

    Ralph Sutton

Love his playing! Heard a lot of him and saw him as an intermission pianist at Condon's when I was a kid. BTW - I heard some never officially released live recordings of Ralph with Smokey Stover's band (George Brunis also on board) and he is an absolute HERO! No bass player and he's groovin' and stridin' like a mofo.
  10. Happy Birthday Chris - all the best!
  11. I did some work for Sylvia and All Platinum and Moms has a point. Despite that I'm sorry to see her go.
  12. There's no business like show business.
  13. A needle drop is a cd that uses vinyl for a source rather than the original master tapes. Usually happens when the tapes are lost or unavailable. Costs are lower and most production work is already done. The Felsted material is very good stuff. Straight ahead swingin' mainstream jazz. I have about 5 or 6 of the lps and I will get this to complete the set.
  14. On the list of leaders they fail to mention Rex Stewart although the first six tunes listed are from Rendezvous With Rex, an excellent album I've had on vinyl for a long time.
  15. "It's gonna take an ocean of calamine lotion?" I never heard of that being a remedy for the clap. I agree. It's a stretch. Do you think they were going to write about needing penicillin, or maybe the fact that it hurts when you piss? I don't need to examine the lyrics to decide if it could be about the clap or not. I believe the guys who wrote it when they say the song was inspired by STDs. Just because they had to write it knowing full well what could be recorded and aired on the radio doesn't mean that their description of the inspiration isn't true. Exactly.
  16. Quite a bit of that Jelly was on a Milestone(?) Riverside twofer in the 70s. I was never fond of Riverside's remastering of vintage material so the bar isn't too high for the Jazz Oracle to be an improvement. I'm getting it.
