  1. Yes...and as great as the films were read the novel.
  2. Godfather One by a nose. That whole thing about family love that draws Michael in resonates with me. GF two is darker and still a great flick. GF3 "we don't talk about."
  3. Happy Bithday Lon, All the Best!
  4. Thanks Brownie for reminding us about Pops actual birthday, Reading this now and enjoying it.
  5. TTK - As you suspect the missing tracks are on another RVG: Milt Jackson - Wizard of the Vibes.
  6. I still have that one also. Great set and a plus for the sound.
  7. Kickin' back with some Knob Creek straight up. Good sippin'.
  8. I, and most musicians I know, dance badly and only when we have to. Unless I'm lit and do a monk like groove thing. Somewhere in my body there is a part of me that is in time. I know where that part is but no one else does. IOW when I'm alone I'm dancing my ass off.
  9. Thanks Jeff. I missed that one.
  10. What label is "The Dance hall Years" ? Is it available?
  11. I liked the arrangements and band sound too. I kind of characterized it as a commercial early 60s samba record that held up extremely well over time.
  12. RIP Carl. Sorry to hear this. I played many gigs behind the Coasters in the 70s and early 80s. Carl was a really nice guy. There were a couple of versions of the Coasters. Carl's group was a New York based unit while I think Cornell Gunter worked Vegas and the west coast more. It was Carl who sang lead on Young Blood, Smoky Joe's Cafe, Yakety Yak, Charlie Brown and most of the hits. Billy Guy sang lead on Searchin', Little Egypt and a few others I can't remember right now. Not sure what Cornell Gunter sang lead on but I know he was a member early in their history when they were based in LA.
  13. That's wild. Kevin Gavin on CP records. Kevin Gavin was big in the NYC jingle scene through at least the early 80s. I had always heard that he and Barry Manilow wrote the "You Deserve A Break Today" jingle for McDonalds. For a time he was partners with Sid Woloshin, another name that won't ring a bell but another huge name in the jingle industry. After they began to work independently I know Sid wound up with the McDonalds account.
  14. Same here and it also knocked my "Amazon Downloader" out of commission. I had to reinstall and didn't choose the Cloud Drive option when offered.

    Wanda Sa

I think she's terrific. I have several recordings and enjoy them all. One with the Sergio Mendes trio really stands out.
  16. Sad news. I first saw Cornell in the early 60s with King Curtis and have seen him literally dozens of times. He was one of a kind - a true standout in his field.
  17. Gee! What a novel thought. I think you hit it Spoon! Why does this subject remind me of Frank Kofsky's interview with Trane?
  18. BBQ sauce tastes better.
  19. If you dig early James Brown It's a good bet you'll dig the hell out of the Five Royales!
  20. Great! Anybody know who is the guy who introduces the act? He looks really familiar. Edit to add: Jesus....It's Hal Jackson! No wonder he looks familiar. I played many shows he mc'd. But he was a lot older.

    Chubby Hayes

Big Noise was a Bob Haggart - Ray Baduoc specialty. I wonder if Butch saw Chubby perform it sometime. I also wonder if Chubby ever did it on his tv show.
  22. usually one of the highlights of Bix broadcast is the playing of a "solo tape" - an edited series of just Bix solos. Great listening.
