  1. two treats in store there. 'Weaving Symbolics' has a variety of line-up sizes not seen elsewhere in his discography I'm most excited about that one. It's been on my wishlist for 3 years and finally pulled the trigger. I think there are only 3-4 titles of his as leader I need now.
  2. Steve Coleman and Five Elements - Weaving Symbolics and Steve Coleman and Five Elements - On The Rising Of The 64 Paths filling out my Steve Coleman collection with a couple french imports that I finally found at decent prices. Just waiting for them to arrive now.
  3. By that logic, music should not be purchased second-hand if still available.
  4. Much better read is his downbeat interview http://www.downbeat.com/digitaledition/2015/DB1505/24-25.html
  5. I picked Alms/Tiergarten (Spree) up about a year ago and still haven't given it a proper listen. Was just thinking about it earlier after looking at this thread. May try to give it a spin tonight to report back.
  6. I had purchased the Gigi Gryce one. Sounded terrible. Got rid of it.
  7. I would classify the "vocals" as non-intrusive. The voice used as an instrument.
  8. I was stating that Pi was the one pushing the promotion of steve coleman, ie. interviews, booking Vanguard etc. generally it is the label that does the promotional push around the time an album is released. My comment was in reference to mainstream validation, which I can't imagine Steve to be seeking, but wouldn't want to speak for him.
  9. I figured this was Pi Recordings doing and not Steve's. Either way I'm a fan of his music, his system, his energy and him as a human being, from the communication I've had with him.
  10. Pretty seemless ordering through Dark Tree. Got it in about a week.
  11. Got my copy in Friday. I agree about the low sound of the bass, but I'm not surprised or deterred by it. It's similar sound quality-wise to the Bobby Bradford & The Mo'tet "Live at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art". Never tire of hearing his horn sing.
  12. Edit: my fault, it was www.ioldies.com I ordered from. Them I do not recommend.
  13. Curious about your thoughts when you get a chance to hear it to see if they match mine Shall do. Not released here for a few weeks. To be honest I ordered it as I'm intrigued by someone releasing a 3CD debut (surely hubris awaits) and the prerelease tracks sound good in a "lets throw lots of 'spiritual' jazz influences in the pot and stir hard with a few contemporary sounds". Whilst I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking the Brainfeeder/Flying Lotus connection might bring a different perspective. That it's a Ninja Tune is also a canny positioning - taking it out of the obvious Jazz circles and it may do well over here as 'Jazz for non-Jazz fans' What's his story? I agree about the ambitious nature made it intriguing for me also. I lucked into an advance of it. I think your expectations are grounded and will serve you well. Your final point really hits it on the head in my opinion. I feel with the push to non-Jazz fans will provide some hype that Jazz fans would not share. I think the praise Flying Lotus gives it is an extension of that thought process. Yes, that push to non-Jazz fans will almost inevitably result in a backlash from the keepers of the Jazz flame. Flying Lotus should listen a bit wider methinks Still, looking forward to hearing a new voice The sample give a good indication of the overall album experience

  16. Louis Armstrong - Satchmo at Symphony Hall 65th Anniversary: The Complete Performances I've put off buying this long enough i suppose...
  17. Love International Phonograph reissues but I have 0 interest in another copy of Sound. The Sam Rivers sound like an excellent idea and I'd be all over that.
  18. Fred Anderson - Birthday Live 2000 Louis Armstrong - Satchmo, A Musical Autobiography + Stachmo Plays King Oliver (this will be the third version I have of this album) and The Good Book picked up these directly from Avid. Even with shipping to the US it was dirt cheap. $16 dollars i believe.
  19. The shop I went to had a bunch of the Larry Young and Miles 10" box sets. I didn't pick up either though
  20. Jazz Interaction Orchestra - Jazzhatten Suite
  21. 80's Verve stereo pressing but very clean. Solid purchase for $6. Wonderful recording.
