I would hope that the saw remains on the master tape, or more accurately that the master tape with the saw remains. And that whoever's doing the Toned Poets series knows the difference.

It's kinda weird to know a record one way for decades, then get excited about it finally coming out on CD only to find that they've made a fundamental "change to one of the cuts, one of the more memorable parts, actually.

There is a cd version without edits to the saw. I have it and think I got it off a member here. I think it’s a Japanese release.

    Melissa Aldana - 12 Stars

I've been picking up the D2C Blue Note releases since i heard how amazing the Gregory Porter - All Rise sounded compared to the CD version. This and the Immanuel Wilkins both sound fantastic and I have the Trombone Shorty, Joel Ross and Gerald Clayton on their way this week.

Do you know why the site is closing? I couldn't find any information about it. It's kind of amazing to me that Vinny put out a physical (!) 12-disc box set.

Yeah Jeff Kaiser is working as a professor full-time and doesn’t have the time for the label any longer. The site was supposed to close at the end of 2021 but he delayed it due to production delays.

Not a huge Golia listener but I happened to be listening to Vinny when I saw this post. I’ll be getting the physical product if it comes out on CD. I love his comments. Yes 15 months of isolation up until post vaccination. Very tough especially on these great creative musicians who hardly have an audience anyway. Wish more of the small rooms would be opening sooner. I’ve seen only one show this summer and very little of interest scheduled in NYC.

Out now. 12 CD set. The site is closing May 6th so not sure how it will be available after pfmentum closes

I usually end up drowning in it when I look on there. The worst is when Tone Poet threads turn into a discussion of road cycles and gear options.

Some bullshit? Only some?? I somehow mange to see a lot more than you then. :)

Avoid the hardware discussions if you want to keep your sanity. There are some real loonies in that forum.

 I’ve actually never dipped my toe into the gear sections and will continue to avoid it! Haha

I've mostly looked there for new release info and the super deluxe prince sets information. I can only imagine how the threads about the tone poets go given the few threads I’ve seen and how they go.

HutchFan, just when I thought I had a great hi-fi set, you are telling me I probably have not :P No it's true: I think I have great stuff: Denon reciever, old but fine B&W speakers and a Rega P2 turntable but it's not comparible to the sets some people own. I am definitely no audiophile and could not afford to be one either. With some of the folks on the Hoffman board I have a feeling that sound quality weighs more than the actual music. Some of them aren't really into jazz but blindly buy every Tone Poet, every Acoustic Sounds and every Sam release.... And their conclusion is that every record is a 5 star record, even the ones that really aren't that special....

The Hoffman board is informative but you really have to swim through some bullshit. I usually only peruse it for entertainment, and packaging info.

My most recent CD upgrade was one of these - Naim CD555. Solid aluminium block and I run it with separate power supplies for the analogue and digital circuits. Weighs a ton !

I figure that this will be the last CD player I ever bother with. When it is no longer supportable I can retain the supplies and just switch to Naim’s 555 reference streamer.

Although vinyl playback on my LP12 setup is still superior for the most part, this beast runs it fairly close.

You can even do an ‘open sesame’ with the hands and open the lid !

Nice. I like that its a simple lid loader. I didn't look into CD Players too much when I got the Emotiva ERC-3. I read good reviews and pulled the trigger. I figure it should be my last CD player or at least for the next couple decades. My only complaint is it loads slow but its not really an issue other than slight annoyance.
