  1. I pre-ordered the book several weeks ago on Amazon..... m~
  2. ...and he could get that with a new recording. The guy still sounds great but Tom is right.....I've seen him a dozen times and the set list doesn't change. That said, I still love the guy. m
  3. And who might these nefarious rednecks be? I can think of one person who might fit that description, but that's about it. So one person has taken over the entire board? That one person is confined mainly to the political forum, so if it bothers you that much, don't go in there. And if you have no self-control, then I can make it so you cannot see the political forum at all. ...dude, I'm right here...wait until I log off!
  4. I'm inclined to agree w/ you but just remember the Mets were up by 7 games w/ 17 to play in 2007 and the Phillies won the division. Still a lot of baseball to play. Plus Zambrano is coming back, and I just think the Cardinals are a catchable team for some reason. Milton Bradley has been an unmitigated disaster though... ....I don't think the cubs have a chance of catching the cards. I think the cards would need to play .500 ball the rest of the way for this to happen...and I don't think it will happen with the line-up at this time.
  5. I don't always agree with Dan but your post is just not a bit right!....and btw, this is not the political thread...don't ruin the few actual music threads with your politics. m
  6. ....too many things to see...several of them overlapping. Got to catch a little of this...little of that! See you there Dan!
  7. I was in attendance at the bft...very interesting stuff and I'm sure a lot of it didn't make it to print. m
  8. I'll look for the pissin' and moanin' guy! Hope you can make it! m
  9. It's not looking too good for the Cubs right now. On another note: How long has the "walk-off bounce" been in effect? It seems that every walk-off homer gets celebrated with the bounce now, it can't be more than two years for that. ...always happy to see another Cubs loss...but there is a ways to go. Hopefully they will lose some more:-) m~
  10. Any board members going to the chicago jazz fest this year? I'm sure Sal, Rob, Ejp626, Danimal, Larry K and possibly Chuck will be there....how about the rest of you? Kind of a "home grown" line up this year which is a good thing. Lots of after-sets at the Velvet, Green Mill, Showcase, Hungry Brain and I'm sure other places. Tribute to Benny Goodman at Millennium Park the night before the fest kicks off...featuring Jon Faddis and Buddy DeFranco. pm me if you're going! m
  11. ...Hi Chuck! See you in Chicago??? m
  12. ...I see Vincent Chancey is included....great player as well. m
  13. ...watching nothing right now....but can't wait for the season premier of Mad Men tonight! m
  14. ...pm sent on Rumsey and Thompson. m~
  15. ...Bobby brings his trio to Indy's Jazz Kitchen this coming Friday (8/21).....Terence Blanchard here tomrrow night! m~
  16. ...coming soon to the Green Mill in Chicago. m
  17. Note to the O band members - don't let Ron name any more of your CDs! Funkianapolis? ...we are the home of Wes, Freddie, Slide, JJ, Hoagy and many other greats....we are funky! m
  18. ...will be at a panel discussion today with David Baker and others....I'm sure George will come up in conversation. m
  19. Couldn't ignore the trade deadline BS. I am done but reserve the right to return solely to talk about the Cubs. That ought to annoy you even more. I'm not annoyed; just having some fun! Glad to be of service. Three in the loss column to the Cubbies! ...oops...looks like the Cubs lost again tonight...and the cards won!

  21. Giving up Masterson is giving up a lot of flexibility, as someone that could be an eighth inning guy (last year) or a long man/starter (this year - and he didn't do it very well this year either). In all seriousness Masterson slipped significantly in my eyes this year. V-Mart is a very good hitter with no real position, though he can play 1B and he catches. He's a substantial offensive weapon, the problem is that there is no place for him to play without sitting a regular everyday starter. What do they plan to do, sit Youkilis, Varitek, Lowell and Papi once a week? That's not a full week from Martinez, who is used to being a starter. I'd love to find out that since they didn't give up Clay or Bard that somehow they are going to pull of Halladay, but the reality is that they have less than an hour to deal poor Adam LaRoche, who came to Fenway, looked at the Monster, and smiled, and now is going to end up somewhere else less than 10 days later. Unless of course he is going to Cleveland since I am pretty sure they need a 1B now - weren't Garko and V-Mart sharing the position? I will say this - with V-Mart signed for next year, they will either ease him in as primary catcher over 'Tek (because even if they don't exercise the team option on Varitek, Varitek has a player option) or else look seriously at sending Lowell away in a Lugo-style 100% salary dump, as no one will take Lowell with his bad hip. The Phils must be ecstatic that Lowell didn't take their offer in 2007, or they'd be on the hook to him for two more years. ....is it 2010 already ?
  22. I liked him a lot too. I think Cardinal fans did too as the team got him back from SF after just one year away. As far as his "speed" it was too bad he never raced Brooks Robinson. Cardinal announcers loved to compare the two (range factor didn't exist back in those innocent days. ) I too remember him being hot in April, and what do you know, for once the memory wasn't made up! Batting Average for April (courtesy of retrosheet.org) 1974 - .417 1975 - .369 1976 - .369 (his season w/ the Giants) 1977 - .211 (oops, back w/ STL. Hits .366 in May.) 1978 - .315 1979 - .324 1980 - .397 (batted .195 for June & July) 1981 - .192 (now w/ Cubs) 1982 - w/ Pirates, does not bat in April, gets 10 AB in May & June and is out of baseball. Lifetime he was a .260 hitter who hit .314 in April. His worst month was September .243. Oh I don't know, the average March temp is 73. Oh wait, that's Egypt. Having spent some August days in Little Egypt (Southern Illinois' nickname) I just assumed that summer heat & humidity was still hanging around to keep you warm in the winter. (I know better, but that summer weather is so wicked that I still have flashbacks.) Regarding ruined arms it must have been bad, look at Pete Gray. IMO too. Sorry all for passing on the Rose rumor. Dan Patrick sounded very convincing that day. ...loved Reitz back in the day!
