  3. New discoveries that got a lot of listening time in 2007: Cooper-Moore. He had a string of really strong releases and 2007 was the year where I spent a lot of time digging his music. Seeing Triptych Myth live a few months back was definitely a highlight. Gigi Gryce. Prior to 2007 I'd heard Rat Race Blues once, but that was it. I've really been enjoying delving into his classic sides. I'm looking forward to receiving a copy of his bio.
  4. Flurin, My condolences. We have two cats and I know how hard it must have been to lose her.
  5. He has recorded two albums with Stan Tracey. The other album, Crevulations, was recorded live after the studio set was recorded. I might prefer it to the disc I used for the BFT. They would both be good purchases if you are looking for less abstract EP.
  6. 3. Evan Parker and Stan Tracey - "Maggot", Suspensions and Anticipations (Psi) 2004 4. Rabih Abou-Khalil - "Ma Muse M'abuse", Morton's Foot (Enja) 2003 Rabih Abou-Khalil, Gabriele Mirabassi, Luciano Biondini, Michel Godard, Gavino Murgia, Jarrod Cagwin More to follow tomorrow.
  7. Here are the answers to BFT #53. I really enjoyed reading everyone's comments. Thank you to all who took the time to post their thoughts. I'll try to find some time soon to post a few thoughts on why I chose each track. I'm still hoping that more of the people who signed up will find the time to post a few thoughts in the discussion thread, even after the answers are all posted. 1. 8. It's a Blue Notes set, not Brotherhood. No complaints from me, however: "OGUN RECORDS Are busy preparing the next Ogun issue, and are very pleased and excited to announce the awaited release of all the music recorded on Ogun by the legendary BLUE NOTES LOUIS MOHOLO-MOHOLO ~DUDU PUKWANA ~ JOHNNY DYANI AND CHRIS McGREGOR. A box set with Blue Notes for Mongezi, 2 full length CDs with extra material from the double LP previous release OG001/002 Blue Notes in Concert ( OG220 ) with extra material from the live concert Blue Notes For Johnny ( OG532 ) extra material from the studio recording All of which have never been on CD before, plus the re-issue of Blue Notes Legacy formerly released as a CD OGCD007 which has been out of print for over a year., 5 CD BOX SET OGCD 024 - 028"
  9. I can recommend Squidco highly. I've placed many orders with them and have no complaints. Always quick to ship and pleasant to deal with. In fact, I just received Sun ra's Disco 3000 set in the mail from them yesterday. My only complaint is that shipping used to be free. I can't fault them for charging $1 for the first two items.
  10. Correct again! It's an odd little tune, and not an album of Rahsaan's that gets discussed a lot. Such a great, great groove and Rahsaan is as distinctive as ever. One can only imagine what these 1970's Atlantic albums would have sounded like had John Zorn produced in Dorn's place...
  11. Correct. I have still not picked up the other BoB studio albums that were recently reissued, but plan to do so soon. Another album from these musicians that really deserves to be reissued is Dudu's "In the Townships."
  12. I'm fairly certain you won't be able to guess the tune. It's much more likely you could identify the guy on the horn. A little poppish, a little over the top, but I love the groove the band gets into, especially the sax. Thanks for your comments! I really enjoyed reading them.
  13. I agree completely. As I mentioned earlier, this is the same drummer and bass as track #12. This release is out of print, but I highly recommend tracking down a copy if you can find one. Their studio albums are really nice, too.
  14. I really enjoyed this band's work. I believe they are now defunct. I agree that the drummer is fantastic. He is getting more exposure in the past year or so and is always a blast. he is also the drummer on track #14.
  15. Thank you for your comments! I really enjoyed them
  16. Up for some air... I'm hoping people have time to post a few more comments on the music in the next few days, but it seems like this BFT has died an early death. Either way I will most likely go ahead and post the answers next week.
  17. There should be one somewhere, but if nothing else I have a list sitting on my computer. Here 'tis: Not that it really matters any longer which ones were limited edition and regular OJCs, since many of both have gone OOP, and some of both have been kept in print by Concord. Thank you! This is helpful.
  18. This may have been answered previously, but I'm having no luck searching. Does anyone here have, or is anyone aware of a site with a complete list of all OJC limited edition releases?
  19. I don't recall seeing this posted yet, but Atavistic is reissuing Some Blues But Not The Kind That's Blue and lists it as available in January. It is already available for order, so I'm assuming they'll ship early, as they did for Purple Moon.
  20. There are two pianists on this track.
  21. I agree. The bass player is the leader on this date, but it really has a collective feel and everyone shines.
  22. This piece is atypical of the session as a whole. I chose it after hearing a beautiful live version when I saw this group a few months back.
