[How is Walt Dickerson's "Lawrence of Arabia" (Dauntless)?]

Does anyone know this record? I've been listening to Dickerson's OJC recordings and like them a lot. And I am a big fan of the movie "Lawrence of Arabia", including the music. But the LP seems fairly uncommon and quite expensive when listed on eBay. Wanted to ask people's opinions before taking the plunge.

[Death of the iPod (Everyone's buying vinyl)]

I have a 6G 160gig IPod Classic that I love very much, especially when I travel, and it's been having some problems that led me to think that I may need to replace it soon. Then 2 days after the recent Apple announcements, I found out that iPod Classic was discontinued. I panicked and scoured the web and local stores. Most places said they no longer have any, but a kindly manager of a local Radio Shack found one 7G 160gig at a distant store and requested that it be sent to her store. Meanwhile, I ordered another one on the Best Buy website. (Apparently, some guy had been driving around the SF area and buying up all available 160 gig iPod Classics, presumably to sell on eBay or such.) I thought at best, I would get one of two in, and in fact received a message from Best Buy shortly after my order saying that they no longer have it. But both arrived in the last 2 days. Now, I have a big dilemma. Do I return one of them? (I hadn't realized that the 7G is so much thinner than the 6G.)

[Paul Motian]

I've been listening to some of Paul Motian's last small group records -- some with Frisell and Lovano, and others with other people, including some with vocalists. They are very fine and likable records. I am thinking there must be more music recorded, and wonder whether they will become available some time. Perhaps Frisell and Lovano, or Manfred Eicher or the fellow who runs Winter & Winter will put them out. Hope so. I miss the days when we could expect at least one new Motian record a year.

I've never been a big fan of the blues music, and know nothing about it really. But yesterday, as I was driving, I was listening to Fresh Air on NPR, and Terry Gross was interviewing Phil and Dave Alvin who are blues singer-guitarists. Each played and sang a song with just his acoustic guitar and I found it fascinating. I thought the guitar playing sounded almost avant grade -- almost like Derek Bailey. I was wondering if people could recommend some good blues played on acoustic guitar, with or without vocals, and with or without any other instrumental backings. Thanks.

I wonder whether there will be further releases in this series. I hope so, as there are a few Columbia or RCA records that could use a CD or remaster treatment -- e.g. Gerry Mulligan's "What is There to Say?", a couple more Jazz Lab records from Donald Byrd & Gigi Gryce, Nick Travis's "The Panic is On", Tony Scott's records, and some rarely-issued Dave Brubeck. All would be very welcome.

Is that Gerry Mulligan CD hard to find; I recall this one quite a bit in the used bin at Amoeba in Los Angeles.

The Nick Travis was on RCA (reissued by Fresh Sound; don't know if it's still in print); would it be in this series?

The old 1980's Mulligan from Columbia is quite easy to find. But the sound leaves much to be desired. Very flat and metallic. I would love a new remaster. I've never seen the Fresh Sound Travis, but I doubt that it is legit. I don't see why it can't be in this series as it is RCA, there have been plenty of RCA recordings in this series.
