  3. I've cashed in on this a bit the past several weeks. I'm surprised the sale has lasted this long. It goes until the 23rd from what I understand! Hmmm....I may go there today.. Incidentally, the Tower I frequent has got in some 'oop' CC titles recently. 'Flight to Jordan', 'Polycurrents', 'The African Flower', 'Eternal Spirit'. Not effected by the sale but an interesting surprise. Tower Records is effing weird and unpredictable.
  4. By now I should have gotten messages to everybody letting them know of the status of the shipments. Sorry for the delay. Up for some air and a couple lowered prices. Best regards, Bill

  6. Perhaps some powdered bat's tongue might help?? Email sent re: The Empty Foxhole. For those who made payments, the discs will be shipped before the end of the week. I will send a confirmation email. Peace! Bill
  7. I don't think I've seen anything about dancing on this board yet but I'd like to share my experiences from this summer. When I got my first teaching job last year it was a major accomplishment after a year or so of less-than-favorable situations and health problems, physical and mental. As a reward for crossing that hump I decided to try some new things, pick up some new hobbies. I took on a beginning acting class and a few months later, last March, I decided to take a Salsa dancing class. Now I knew some basic steps from a couple semesters playing trumpet in my college's Latin American Music Ensemble but I was intrigued to learn more (Also wanted to meet more women B-)) With dancing, I've always had two left feet. Never went to dance clubs, never moved right regardless of my musicianship and ability to feel a groove. I decided to take a beginning Salsa class in Philly and needless to say I became hooked from the get-go. It was very intimidating going to the clubs at first not really knowing how to lead (Women who dance well have NO tolerance for novice gentleman ) but the more I went out the better I picked it up. I'm happy to say that I stuck with it and have been Salsa dancing regularly for about 6 months and am just finishing up an Intermediate level class. I'm gonna take a break from the classes for a while cuz I'm about to go back to teach school but will continue going out every other week or so. Anybody else do any dancing? Salsa? Ballroom? The Mashed Potata?? FESS UP and share your footwork! Peace!! Bill
  8. Hmmm....Have the Hill via a burn; LOVE IT and will probably get the legit copy. Same for the Wilson which has some great playing. The Rivers I have on the Mosaic but I love the cover so I may pick it up for that and the sound if it's improved by any great deal. What's the Hutcherson all about? I'm very intrigued. Best regards, Bill
  9. You can say that again. Instead of working this summer I had way too much fun!! List updated. I may add some more. Best regards! Bill

  11. I'm dumbfounded by the remarks but then again 'different strokes' as they say... On his BN's Freddie is a very advanced technician on the trumpet. To many it may sound very mechanical but when I listen I can pick through the technical aspects and come to appreciate his tone, sense of melody, harmony and groove. There's no better example of this in my opinion than 'Ready for Freddie'. On early albums like 'Open Sesame' and sideman appearance on Kenny Drew's 'Undercurrent' he is a bit rough around the edges tone and idea wise but still very satisfying and powerful playing. Incidentally I'm ecstatic over 'Blue Spirits' 'Goin' Up' doesn't strike the sweet spot but I haven't pulled it out in a while...*mental note* Peace!! Bill By the way I love his solo on 'Tomorrow's Destiny' w/ Woody Shaw. Check it out!
  12. Recent additions: New: McCoy Tyner 'Tender Moments' Freddie Hubbard 'Blue Spirits' Elvin Jones 'Poly-Currents' Used: Reggie Workman 'Cerebral Caverns' Miles Davis/Lost Quintet 'Double Image' Roots feat. Don Pullen, Sam Rivers, etc. 'Stablemates' Grant Green 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' TOCJ
  13. I don't think I've ever warmed up to this session cuz of the sound issues. I've always liked 'Doin' Alright' a little bit better. I may upgrade though if the RVG is an improvement. Otherwise, with this batch I picked up the only two I've never, ever heard before: Tender Moments and Blue Spirits. The former was the Holy Grail of sorts that I longed to hear but never tracked down. 'Blue Spirits' was kinda like 'Here to Stay'; just a figment of my imagination. I truly feel like a kid again on Christmas morning with these two reissues. Ironically I haven't listened much to the Tyner as 'Blue Spirits' has hooked me and won't let go. Outstanding across the board. Peace
  14. Roots - Stablemates ( A group w/ Don Pullen, Sam Rivers, Chico Freeman and a few others. Can't remember the label) Miles Davis - Double Image (Live recording from Paris w/ Wayne, Jack DeJohnette and Chick Corea I think. Moon Records) Lonnie Smith - Mama Wailer (Looked like an import) Thanks!
  15. I've been kinda out of the loop lately. Since October I've been working a middle school music teaching job in Cheste, PA and it's been a real challenge. Life is very good lately. I haven't had an opportunity to do more than lurk a bit here and there, but I'll try to check in every so often. I miss you guys!! Hope all is well with everybody! Peace Bill
  16. WAHHHHHHHHH...I want them nooooooooooooooow!!!!!
  17. One tat for me.....a four inch Kokopelli figure, all in black, on my shoulder blade. It hurt like a mofo when I got it done about 5 years ago, and I almost passed out cuz I didn't eat anything before hand. I like it and don't regret getting it. I do have one strategically placed piercing too...*ahem* *cough* .....
  18. "First you get da money, then you get the power. Once you get da power, then you get da women." I'll probably pick this up.
  19. Thanks everybody. I hope so Lon. I suppose it's natural for me to feel some trepidation going into this. I just hope I don't screw up too bad. Guess this is where all that networking pays off. I got some people to call!! Pick their brains and such.
  20. Funny, my mom actually said that to me.
  21. Greetings all!!! I'm pleased to announce that I successfully interviewed for a middle school music teaching position in the Chester Upland School District last week and have just today received word that I GOT THE JOB!!! They want me to start in a week!! The job requires both work in instrumental and vocal music and will basically be a free-reign kind of position, as the program in the school district has taken a bit of a nose-dive in the past several years and they're looking for someone to lift it up again. I'm scared Sh*tless!!!!!!!!! This will possibly be my last week of checking in regularly for a while, as I will no long have consistent PC access and I no doubt will have my hands full trying to get settled in this new job. It's funny, I spent so long waiting for this and now I'm just totally beside myself and my emotions are going nuts....Happiness, anxious, eager, scared, and just plain excited. I just wanted to spread the good news and I hope everyone is having a fine day!!!!! Peace! Bill Giffear
