  1. Damn it, Paul; I know I know you; what was your handle @ BNBB??? It's driving me crazy, and I know it's just another senior moment...
  2. I don't really think polls are the answer at this stage. The poll taken here said we should stay here. Surprise, surprise. I'm sure a poll taken at this point at AAJ would result in an overwhelming vote to stay there. I honestly think that at this stage, the best approach is to be patient. Let's let things sort themselves out for a bit. After all, a lot of us thought Harlem.org was our new home for a bit. Obviously, fewer of us think that now. Let's just give it a little more time...
  3. ...and as you head out the door you can hear Papa's Got a Brand New Bag rising up!
  4. Ah, but those were different days; if you tried that today, you'd be hit with a zeitgeist harrassment lawsuit!
  5. So, just out of curiosity, what would you buy first? All I have is What is There to Say? and of course Monk Meets Mulligan. What would you go with next?
  6. Well, as John Tappscott pointed out on another topic, it hasn't been that long since the axe fell, and I think we're still in the sorting out phase. I wouldn't give up too quickly on this board emerging as THE hangout for us exBNer's... And wesbed, you've BEEN part of the family!
  7. But seriously, if that's possible for me, I have to agree. The thread that was deleted was fairly innocuous. It basically went like this: 1) OLD POSTER: This place is a sewer; I'm outta here! 2) JAZZMOOSE: Ha! He should see it NOW! 3) WEST COAST GHOST: You got me on that one; I didn't see the original post date at first. Note: these are NOT quotes; these are my recollection. i'm positive they are NOT exact quotes, okay? Anyway, okay, the moderator sees this, decides other newcomers might be alarmed, so he deletes the entire thread. Like I say, I can understand his reasoning. I understand his motive, and see nothing wrong with his motive. I just don't like the action that he took. Perhaps I'm being unreasonable; perhaps not. Man, I feel like we're reenacting The Oddessy, or more likely Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou? here! Every board seems cool at first, but isn't quite right. This one seems perfect, but...I...seem.....sleeepy.......zzzzzzzzzz
  8. SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!! Er, I mean....
  9. It was silly; I'd found some old thread where somebody complained about the board becoming a sewer (from WAY before we showed up!) and added a comment "He should see it NOW" or something. Very silly, and probably ill-advised. But I'm used to doing ill-advised things and prefer to screw up on my own. As I say, I understand his deletion (the entire thread was deleted) so as to not alarm anyone, but I never cared for things being done for my own good...
  10. Well, the problem is, AAJ is where we landed first. Well, okay; second after the Harlem site which creeped out more than a few of us. Having become one of the few who have already had a post deleted by the head over at AAJ (and I'm not sure I disagree with his reasoning, it's just that after the Blue Note fiasco it rankles...), I must admit I'm leaning more and more towards this site. I don't know what we can do. I just bumped your thread over there, wesbed, hoping for a few more notices from the gang. I think the best we can do is just keep posting here and keep the site alive for the future...
  11. So does anyone know what's new about this one? I gotta tell you, I have a real hard time buying "sonic upgrades" and "newly remastered" things at this point; jazz has been around waaaaaaaaaaaay too long, and there's just too much cool stuff to be discovered. And these darn musicians, they keep recording NEW stuff! My copy of Soulville is fine; unless there's new stuff (and not piano stuff as Saint Vitus alludes to), I'll pass...
  12. Okay, my mind sorted itself out, and my vote has been cast. I genuinely hope that THIS board becomes our new home. It just feels right. I suppose AAJ will become the actual new spot, and in all honesty, this is one of those rare cases where I'd rather run with the crowd that stick to my guns, but I hope this place stays around and eventually becomes a viable jazz board no matter what else happens.
  13. Well...even if AAJ works out great and things go well for a while, it sure would be nice to have this place ready, just in case. I did not like the feeling of being shown the door over at Blue Note. It won't take that much for us to keep some traffic going here, will it? I guess I've been burned, and am unwilling to trust a site completely that isn't "in family" anymore...
  14. Been reading this during spare moments lately (yeah, when I'm not on the computer chatting with you people!), and while I find an occasional annoyance, particularly in the area of "off topic" stuff, I don't seem to be reacting as negatively to this book as many do. Assuming anyone here does actively dislike this book, what exactly is it that tweaks you? Just curious...
  15. God, I HATED that song. Of course, it didn't help that it was my first stepmother's favorite...
  16. Reminds me of that Viagra commercial on TV where everyone's asking "New suit?", "Get a haircut?", etc. I always want to yell "NO, you MORONS!! He's got a BONER!!!", but the first time I did that, the wife wasn't amused...
  17. I know exactly what you mean, Ray. I know if the shoe was on the other foot, I would probably feel a bit of resentment at this new crowd waltzing in and taking over my cyberhome. We'll have to see how it plays out, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if we end up right here. In spite of it being run by an organist!
  18. Haven't voted yet, as I'm finally one of those darned "undecideds"! I have mixed emotions. I think AAJ has been a good fit so far, and it has the advantage of having most of us there already. However, I can see BIG advantages to having our OWN place rather than squatting in someone else's cyberspace for a change. We've already seen how that can work out. It's true that it would be hard to lure newcomers here, but that would be the case almost everywhere, and is something we can overcome with hard work and self promotion. My only concern right now is that we STAY TOGETHER! I certainly don't want to see half of us here, half of us at AAJ, and a couple at BNBB with no interaction. It sure would be great if everyone that added to the mix could stay in the mix!
  19. B3-er, I think that if we're going to have political posting, it would be imperative to give it it's own seperate thread so those who want to avoid it can. Mixing it in with anything non-musical like at this one board I used to post at (you may have heard of it...?) just didn't work. I'm sure that there are days when even Johnny E. didn't really feel like political stuff. Well...maybe not Johnny, but you know what I mean!
  20. Howdy, Jim; just got the "you're registered" email and figured I'd better check in!
