  1. Great album, not enough press. I love Marc Copland's playing too.
  2. thanks...quiet day running around doing chores and listening to tunes.
  3. stock sound on a Roland GR-1 guitar synth...Belew probably worked on it with them...or someone developed it for him.
  4. I saw that. Some of the drummers double on keyboards, but it's gonna be crazy with FOUR drummers if they're all playing at once. The last of the great progrock bands, still kicking in 2017. Amazing.

    Yes

I'd agree with that. A few days ago, someone called Wakeman a genius - I had to disagree. I'd say Bruford or Fripp, yes. Love the band, Close to the Edgew/America is the high point and then it drops off after Drama. Spotty quality control after Drama...it's a shame Peter Banks is left out of the HoF thing, they didn't have to wait until after Squire was dead.

    RIP Greg Lake

Sad news. Tough year for musicans. I feel old.
  7. the Jimmy Garrison solos are a bit much, but they are there because they belong. It would be nice if they were separate tracks and I could skip them if I'm not in the mood. Late Trane is fine by me. I listen to what fits the moment.

    John Taylor RIP

"The newest addition to ECM’s popular Old and New Masters Series is a box set reprising the four albums made by Peter Erskine’s American-British-Swedish trio with John Taylor and Palle Danielsson between 1992 and 1997: You Never Know, As It Is, Time Being and Juni. If its core concept – a piano led by a drummer – was unorthodox, the group was nonetheless influential, and the recordings provide an excellent environment for appreciating the distinctive writing and playing of John Taylor. The British pianist was the Erskine Trio’s primary composer, with the drummer-leader and bassist Danielsson also contributing pieces and the repertoire topped up with tunes by Vince Mendoza and Kenny Wheeler. Of his trio mates Erskine says, "We drew out our most explorative and interesting playing from each other. Without trying to be, we were a truly unique group. I’ve heard nothing like it before or since.”" I don't have this little box, but I've been enjoying You Never Know & Time Being today. Very nice.

    Frank Zappa

Crux of the Biscuit is out takes from Apostrophe, interesting enough...probably worth another few listens. There's more of the Jack Bruce jam. Frank Zappa for President is synclavier music and remixes tied together with a political theme. I love that synclavier noodling.

    Frank Zappa

Ahmet trying to generate cash.... I heard 1/2 of Crux today...outtakes and rough mixes. Curious about Meat Light. .
  11. I'm also curious about Quilter, but I'm not looking to buy anything. They make some tiny, powerful heads that fit on a pedal board. Look very portable. Quilter http://www.quilterlabs.com/
  12. I don't remember the Herbie and Chick album as being very interesting, maybe I could give it another spin to see if I like it.

  15. Einojuhani Rautavaara, Composer, Dies at 87; His Lush Music Found Wide Appeal .
  16. I've only started check his music out this week. Cantus Arcticus "(1972, also known as Concerto for Birds & Orchestra) for taped bird song and orchestra" is real nice. the organ concerto, Annunciations really caught my ears!
  17. it's flexible, took me a while to get used to it when I got it. But once I dialed in my sound, it's great.
  18. I loaned my Pignose out for about 10 years, I got it back a few months ago. It's OK, kinda gritty for a clean sound. I've been using a Blues Jr for most of my practice room needs, I haven't played out for a few years. I've been checking out my old Pro Jr., my Tele with single coils sounds great through it. The Tele Thinline with a humbucker in the neck distorts, not enough headroom, further testing soon. Fender clean is my ideal these days. I have a '73 Fender silver face Princeton that hasn't been turned on in years, I should investigate that one too.
  19. I still check in. I can't always think of something to post or say.
